Residents are required to have the trash cart placed at the curb or alley collection location by 7 a.m. on the scheduled collection day. Collection containers should not be set out for collection more than 24 hours prior to the collection date and should be removed from the collection point within 24 hours of collection date.

The only holidays that affect pickup are Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. Service is pushed back one day i.e. If Christmas falls on a Monday, then houses normally serviced Monday are serviced Tuesday, Tuesday houses are serviced Wednesday, etc.

Bulky waste is material that is too large for the trash cart. Bulky items are collected on the same day as trash and should be placed at the collection location near the trash cart. As a rule of thumb, items which are too large to fit in the back of a pickup truck should not be disposed as bulky waste. Special collection services for these and similar oversized items must be arranged directly with Republic Services. Payment for such services will be the responsibility of the resident.

The combination of bulky waste and yard waste set out must not exceed three (3) cubic yards on any given trash/recycling day.

Examples of acceptable bulky items include:

• Appliances*
• Bicycles
• Furniture
• Fencing (cut to 4'x4' or 4'x3' sections)
• Large toys
• Mattresses
• Do-It-Yourself project waste
• Carpeting in bundles (no more than 4' in length)

Residents are encouraged to choose a recycling option for bulky items when that is available. For example, many appliances can be recycled with local metal recyclers. More information on our recycling page under "recycling resources."

*Appliances with PCB/CFC/HCFC coolant (fridges, freezers, A/C units, etc.) must be tagged by a certified technician that the coolant has been safely removed in order to be eligible for curb pickup.  Local recyclers or a removal service are two alternatives to disposal.

Yard waste is collected on the same day as trash collection.

Acceptable yard waste includes: leaves, yard trimmings, garden debris, and small brush (less than four (4) inches in diameter and four (4) feet in length) which results from residential landscaping maintenance.

Yard waste cannot be loose; it must be in a bag or container, or bundled and tied. Weight must not exceed 50 pounds per container or bundle. Yard waste should be placed at the collection location near the trash cart. The combination of bulky waste and yard waste set out must not exceed three (3) cubic yards on any given trash/recycling day.

Soil, dirt, sand, concrete, large stumps, shrubs with intact root balls, and treated wood are not considered yard waste and will not be collected as such. Special collection services are available for these and similar items, and that collection must be arranged directly with Republic Services. Payment for such services will be the responsibility of the resident. Residents may also use their free landfill privileges to dispose of such items from their residences.

Lewisville residents with Republic as their curbside trash provider have the benefit of two free dumping privileges per month at the Camelot Landfill located at 580 Huffines Boulevard.

Solid waste CANNOT be as a result of commercial activity by the resident. Both landfills have the right to refuse any loads.

To access either landfill, residents must present their current water bill and driver’s license with matching address. All loads brought to the landfill must be securely covered to prevent littering or fees will be charged.

In Lewisville, commercial trash service is franchised to Republic Services (Since December 1 2018). Rates are based on the type and size of container and the frequency of collection. All roll-off containers and dumpsters used for trash collection on commercial premises in Lewisville must be owned and serviced by Republic Services. This includes construction sites for residential units as well as commercial units. All trash generated within the city limits must be disposed at the Camelot Landfill located at 580 Huffines Blvd unless the material is delivered to a recycling facility. Recycling dumpsters and roll-offs may not be used to dispose of any trash. Proof of delivery of these materials to a recycling facility must be provided to the city upon request.

How to Set Up Service

Businesses must have trash service a minimum of once per week. Carts, dumpsters, roll-offs and compactors are available to fit customer needs. Commercial establishments should contact Republic Services Commercial Services at 972.316.0789 to arrange for service. Payments for commercial trash collection services are made directly to Republic Services.

Rates are adjust on an annual basis in December. New rates will be posted after approval by Council Action.

Proper Management of Trash

Trash must be contained to prevent littering, and appropriately sized containers must be used so that lids may remain closed on the containers and there is no excess material outside the container between collections. Overfilled containers will not be emptied if a safety hazard exists, and the customer will be responsible for removing the excess.

Commercial customers are responsible for providing access to their trash containers. Additional charges are incurred if Republic Services must return to the location due to inaccessible containers.

Dumpsters and roll-offs shall not be placed on any sidewalk, street, or other public right of way. The containers must be placed solely on private property.
