The Lewisville Police Department partners with LexisNexis to provide up to date crime mapping and data. If you need more information than is provided by LexisNexis Community Crime Map, requests may be sent to our Crime Analyst. Please include a specific address to be analyzed, date range requested, and valid contact information in your request and allow up to 10 working days for a response. Only statistical information (counts) will be provided; specific crime details or report information must be requested through a Public Information Request.

This Crime Comparison Dashboard provides a view of aggregated local crime data for 2024 for Lewisville and 32 other cities in the four-county area. You can access the dashboard via the following link:

Below is a brief overview:

How the Dashboard Works

  • The dashboard displays various crime categories across our jurisdiction. You can filter by date ranges and switch between different data views.
  • Clicking on any point or bar chart segment reveals aggregated totals or ratios for the selected city.
  • Use the dropdown menus at the top of the page to narrow results by type of crime, city, or county, enabling geographic comparisons.

Data Sources and Reporting Flow

(The same process applies to all cities in the chart.)
  1. Local Incident Recording
    • Our officers respond to incidents and record details in the Lewisville Police Department’s records management system (RMS).
  2. NIBRS Coding
    • The incident data is categorized and coded according to National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) guidelines, requiring detailed information such as the nature of the offense, victim-offender relationships, and property details.
  3. Submission to Texas DPS
    • After local validation, we submit the NIBRS-formatted data to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), which collects and consolidates crime data from across the state.
  4. Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR)
    • Texas DPS then processes our NIBRS data and converts it into Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) data.
    • DPS sends the UCR data to the FBI’s national reporting system, which serves as the central repository for official crime statistics in the United States.
    • All data on this dashboard is publicly accessible from Texas DPS; this tool simply compiles it into one view.
Summary: UCR vs. NIBRS
  • NIBRS provides a more detailed, incident-based approach to crime data, capturing every offense, victim-offender relationship, and property detail within a single incident.
  • Traditional UCR is more summary-based and often counts only the most serious offense in an incident, potentially underrepresenting less severe crimes.

The Lewisville Police Department also collects crime data for the entire city as part of our Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) submissions to the state and FBI, as well as for our internal use.
