What does a 9-1-1 Public Safety Dispatcher Do?

Our Mission
To protect life and property by delivering professional, timely, and compassionate emergency communications services to the community we serve. 

Public Safety Dispatchers are highly experienced, engaged and motivated first responders that are ready to answer telephone calls and related communications equipment to receive and relay information; prioritize and assign appropriate resources for emergency and non-emergency service calls.

They maintain logs and records of all activity as required and provide support information to police officers, fire units, the general public and other public safety agencies as required.

Lewisville 9-1-1 is the City's Emergency Communications Center (ECC). Our Telecommunicators are highly trained public safety professionals who:

  • Answer and process 9-1-1 and non-emergency calls
  • Dispatch Police, Fire, and EMS units
  • Provide Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) instructions
  • Coordinate resources during critical incidents
  • Maintain radio communications across the City

Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD)
Our telecommunicators are certified in Emergency Medical Dispatch and use structured, nationally recognized protocols to: 

  • Identify life-threatening conditions
  • Provide CPR instructions
  • Give choking rescue instructions
  • Assist with childbirth emergencies
  • Provide bleeding control guidance

Every call is handled with urgency, professionalism, and compassion. We are committed to serving the community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
