Old Town Master Plan Update
The Old Town Master Plan is a comprehensive document that guides the future development of Old Town by presenting an overall vision for the area and ways to enact the goals of the community. The first Old Town Master Plan was created in 2003, and it was a key part of the success of Old Town today. An update is needed now in order to continue the success of the first plan and to accurately reflect the changes in the community since 2003.
A master plan is made up of multiple parts. This includes: understanding the current context, identifying challenges or opportunities, getting community feedback, and finally, synthesizing these all together to create the vision and action plan.
Community engagement has been a priority of this master plan update. Phase 1 of community engagement included setting up a booth and requesting input from passersby at events such as Western Days, Mill Street Elementary Resource Fair, Neighborhood Night Out, North Texas Tribute Jam, and First Fridays. We are now in Phase 2 of community engagement, which entails sending out a survey to all Old Town residents to achieve a more in-depth understanding on the challenges and opportunities brought up in Phase 1.
Once the new plan has been drafted, it will go in front of the City Council for approval of adoption. Please check this page in the future for updates on when the hearing will be held.
The 2003 Old Town master plan may be found on the City’s website under the Old Town planning tab. The Old Town Planning tab also includes the Old Town Transit Oriented Development Plan which pertains to the eastern portion of Old Town and partially overlaps with the Old Town Master Plan.
