Lewisville City Council has identified affordable housing as a strategic focus area for the current fiscal year, seeking to take appropriate steps to encourage and facilitate affordable housing development.
Studies were conducted in 2022-2023 to determine the current scope of Lewisville's housing market and affordable housing needs. The collected data guided the creation of a Housing Toolkit to identify areas of opportunity in Lewisville where the City could support affordable housing initiatives. The three primary approaches identified by the Housing Toolkit include:
- Preservation - Make necessary investments into existing housing stock to bring it to current market standards.
- Development - Construct new housing units that meet today's consumer needs.
- Economic Mobility - Provide access to market-rate housing for individuals and families with a diverse range of incomes and housing needs.
City Council set Preservation and Economic Mobility as the current priority approaches.
Affordable housing efforts in Lewisville are initiated through several different incentive programs and grant funding sources, managed primarily by the City of Lewisville's Economic Development and Neighborhood & Inspection Services departments.
