Citizens University



Familiarize citizens with the structure, functions and activities of City of Lewisville government, encourage citizens to become involved in the City’s government, and enhance their ability to communicate effectively with City officials.

Citizens are encouraged to apply for the 2020/2021 Lewisville Citizens University.  They will acquire a better understanding of their City government and services as well as intergovernmental relationship. City official’s will, in turn, gain valuable insights into citizens’ priorities and needs from their involvement.


  • Create a cadre of informed citizens who will be better able to become involved in community activities, will volunteer for Council-appointed boards, commissions, committees, and task forces or will otherwise become involved in the City’s governance.
  • Provide an opportunity for citizens to learn about the City of Lewisville government through first-hand experience and gain exposure to the wide range of City services, functions, activities and issues.
  • Obtain feedback from citizens regarding governmental programs and services.

Class Size:

Classes are limited to 15-20 students. The Citizens University is open to City of Lewisville and Castle Hills residents.

Participant Requirements:

Applicants must:

  • Be registered voters within the City of Lewisville or Castle Hills.
  • Have been a resident for at least one year.
  • Be 18 years or older.
  • Must not be running for local political office during class time.

The Fiscal Year 2020/2021 Class will begin in September 2020.

If interested in participating in the Fiscal Year 2020/2021 class, please submit your application at your earliest convenience.  (The calendar for the 2020/2021 session has not yet been set, but the dates should be similar to the current sessions.)


The LCU will consist of 11 sessions over the course of nine months with a Graduation held at the May 4, 2020, City Council meeting.  Each session will be approximately 2.5 hour sessions and will begin on September 5, 2019.  With the exception of the bus tour scheduled for October 3, 2019, 3 p.m., each session will begin at 6 p.m. and end at approximately 8:30 p.m.  Refreshments will be provided.  Please note the various locations.
