The City’s drinking water maintains its rating of “Superior Public Water Supply,” the highest rating given by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, by meeting and exceeding state and federal standards. On June 2, 1999, the Water Treatment Plant received its first Texas Optimization Program (TOP) award for meeting the most stringent water quality standards that are still in effect. Lewisville was the fourth public water system in Texas to achieve this high level of treatment efficiency.

The City gets its water supply from Lewisville Lake with the capability of producing over 20 MGD. Treated water is also purchased from the City of Dallas to supplement our drinking water supply. Lewisville has a total system capacity of 53.4 million gallons per day (MGD).

Lewisville has an annual average daily consumption of 13.05 MGD. During the summer months when water demands are the greatest, the water system may experience daily demands as high as 26 MGD, while winter demands may dip below 10.0 MGD. The majority of the high usage in the summer can be attributed to irrigation and other outdoor water usage.
