The Arbor Day Foundation has named Lewisville a 2025 Tree City USA in honor of its commitment to plant, grow, and maintain trees to benefit the community. The City also received a Growth Award for demonstrating improved levels of tree care and community engagement.

“By recognizing the role of trees as critical infrastructure, Lewisville is helping shape a healthier and more resilient future,” said Michelle Saulnier, Vice President of Programs at the Arbor Day Foundation.

In 2025, the City committed to planting 2,025 trees as part of its Centennial Celebration. With multiple public tree planting events all around the city and planted more than 3,200 trees. Through its "Healthy Infrastructure Plan," Lewisville Parks & Recreation Department focuses on sustainable urban forestry, tree planting, and preservation to enhance air quality and environmental health.

“Protecting and growing our tree canopy is one of the most important ways we create a livable, healthy community where residents can thrive,” said Lewisville Mayor TJ Gilmore. “This award recognizes our community’s strong commitment to this vital part of Lewisville’s public infrastructure.”

The City of Lewisville has earned the Tree City designation for 32 consecutive years. This is the first year the City has earned the Growth Award. To earn Tree City USA recognition, a city must uphold four core standards including maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry, and participating in an Arbor Day celebration.

Trees are proven to help mitigate the urban heat island effect, reduce stormwater runoff, improve air quality, and boost mental and physical health. When the right trees are planted in the right places, they also can reduce traffic noise, increase property values, and lower energy costs for homeowners.
