Maurice Strickland Awards

Post Date:May 16, 2025
Lewisville Planning Manager Michele Berry and Lewisville Police Department Senior Administrative Analyst John Flores-Hidones have received the 2025 Maurice Strickland Award. Employees are chosen by City Manager Claire Powell with the annual Maurice Strickland Award in recognition of “performance of an exceptional nature” and “actions that support the city’s vision and values.”

Michele Berry, Planning Manager

Michele Berry has been with the City of Lewisville for eight years. She excels in her role as a leader in the department through the mentorship and development of staff.

Key achievements over the last year include crafting and continually updating the Unified Development Code, managing the Business 121 Corridor plan that was adopted in January, and implementing the Southwest Lewisville Small Area Plan.

Integrity is at the forefront of Berry’s work. She values her fellow team members by encouraging their input and collaboration on multiple projects and initiatives. She values her customers and residents by thoughtfully listening to their concerns and finding innovative solutions to challenges.

Her service to Lewisville is reflected in her passion for sustainability and efficiency in projects big and small. Berry is recognized by her peers both in and outside Lewisville as an expert in her field that can be counted on to do what is needed to produce a positive outcome.

John Flores-Hidones, LPD Senior Administrative Analyst

Flores-Hidones has been with Lewisville Police Department for about a year and a half and has quickly become a valuable asset to the organization.

He is the central figure in all things budget-related for LPD. He developed division-level budget tracking tools, allowing the department to reduce overtime consumption by nearly 40 percent in the past fiscal year. He also implemented a much-needed vetting process for travel and training funds, which is already saving LPD thousands of dollars.

Flores-Hidones prepares the LPD Racial Profiling Report and the annual Response to Resistance Report — two of the most critical data and policy documents the department produces. He also manages LPD’s Business Plan.

Maurice Strickland was hired by the City of Lewisville in 1986 and retired in 2011 as Operations Supervisor over Utility Line Maintenance. His tenure with the City was exemplified by quality service and a customer-first attitude that set the finest example for his peers and employees. Shortly after his retirement, Maurice succumbed in his battle with cancer. As a tribute to his service and a reminder of the high standards he set for the organization, the City Manager’s Award given to exemplary employees was renamed in his honor in 2012.
