Lewisville PD launches “Calls for Service” public dashboard

Post Date:May 09, 2025
Lewisville Police Department continues its commitment to transparency with the launch of its new “Calls for Service” public dashboard.

Calls for Service are a measure of activity by police officers and may be generated by both 911 calls or the proactive action by officers. Calls for Service are not confirmed crimes, and the “problem” described is the best classification available to dispatchers at the time the incident is discovered.

Call locations are approximate to maintain privacy and all points on the map are randomly displaced to a nearby position. Call locations should not be used to identify a specific street address. A point which falls within the boundaries of one address may actually belong to a nearby location and may be completely unrelated to the specific street address.

There is a delay of approximately six hours on importing calls to the dashboard. Calls may be withheld completely due to privacy laws or operational necessity.

Following investigation, a call for service may result in a crime report with a different classification or may not result in any additional report if no crime is identified as having taken place.

This Calls for Service dashboard reflects the department’s commitment to transparency, geographic policing, and meaningful community engagement. It offers residents an accessible window into LPD’s daily operations while protecting privacy.

The official LPD crime statistics, produced through the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), and ultimately the Uniform Crime Report (UCR), include validated and categorized crime reports. That information is published monthly and separately on the “LPD Transparency” page at cityoflewisville.com. Since they measure different things on different timelines, the NIBRS crime reports and this dashboard will never perfectly align. Understanding that distinction is key, especially when helping others interpret the meaning behind the data. The standard Public Information Request process remains available for community members seeking more detailed records.

The Calls for Service dashboard supports the “Data-Driven Organization” Strategic Move, and the “Diverse and Thriving Neighborhoods” Big Move of the Lewisville 2025 vision plan. The full plan can be viewed online at cityoflewisville.com/lewisville2025.
