Living in the Metroplex makes it difficult to get hometown news on a daily basis, so the City of Lewisville is doing its best to keep you informed through several avenues.

This page will allow you to see what we send to the media, whether it makes it into print or not. The city publicizes projects, programs, achievements, safety tips, ordinances, Council actions, public notices, special events, and much, much more through News Releases.

The city also operates two Municipal Access cable channels, LVTV Prime and LVTV Leisure, available on the basic tier of the Time Warner and Verizon VFIOS cable systems. LVTV Prime (TW-16, VF-15) broadcasts programs and announcements with basic information about city events and operations, while LVTV Leisure (TW-96, VF-16) focuses on the parks and recreation field.

Songwriting Workshop featuring BettySoo

Workshop set for Saturday, March 30.
Post Date:March 22, 2019
The 7th annual MCL Grand Songwriting Workshop, featuring BettySoo, will be held Saturday, March 30, 9 a.m., at Medical City Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles Street.

Tickets are $50 per person and include lunch and two tickets to Betty Soo’s Black Box Songwriter Series performance scheduled for Sunday, March 31.

Sometimes it's hard to know what is keeping us from writing our best songs. Why do we have songs that are "almost there?" We all have songs we think we've finished, only to discover weeks or months later that we're not quite satisfied. It's easy to get frustrated and tell ourselves we're big imposters, it's not worth it, and we are never going to be any good at this. Then there are those days when even the idea of sitting down to write seems so daunting, we never even get around to doing it in the first place.

BettySoo's been there. During this workshop, BettySoo will demonstrate why certain great songs work. She'll pull apart songs of great writers as well as go through the process of creation with some of her own work, pulling back the curtain on the not-so-romantic mystery of songcraft. Students are strongly encouraged to bring their own works-in-progress – IF they are willing to receive true and constructive criticism! BettySoo will give the same serious editing attention she gives her own songs, along with the encouragement of the rest of the participants, to help all willing songwriters to sharpen their craft.

BettySoo has garnered multiple songwriting awards, including the New Folk at Kerrville, Songwriter of the Year at Big Top Chautauqua, The Dave Carter Songwriting Award at Sisters Folk Festival, and the Mountain Stage New Song Competition. The workshop runs from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and lunch will be provided. Tickets are $50 per person and include lunch and two tickets to BettySoo’s Black Box Songwriter Series concert scheduled for Sunday, March 31. Workshop is limited to 20 people. Visit mclgrand.tix.com to purchase workshop tickets.

The songwriter workshop will give participants a full-day immersive experience with these two writers, and the opportunity network with other local and regional songwriters.
