Living in the Metroplex makes it difficult to get hometown news on a daily basis, so the City of Lewisville is doing its best to keep you informed through several avenues.

This page will allow you to see what we send to the media, whether it makes it into print or not. The city publicizes projects, programs, achievements, safety tips, ordinances, Council actions, public notices, special events, and much, much more through News Releases.

The city also operates two Municipal Access cable channels, LVTV Prime and LVTV Leisure, available on the basic tier of the Time Warner and Verizon VFIOS cable systems. LVTV Prime (TW-16, VF-15) broadcasts programs and announcements with basic information about city events and operations, while LVTV Leisure (TW-96, VF-16) focuses on the parks and recreation field.

Eric Smith Singer/Songwriter Challenge

Next challenge date is Friday, Feb. 1
Post Date:January 11, 2019

Calling all songwriters! Whether you’re a seasoned pro or new to the stage, you’re invited to join Acoustic Fridays (sponsored by the Visual Art League) for its quarterly Eric Smith Songwriting Challenge. This free event takes place in the MCL Grand’s intimate Black Box Theater and provides an opportunity for singer-songwriters – and listeners! – to experience the courageous and exquisite beauty of original songwriting.

Join us as a Songwriter:
Each challenge has a theme, and February's participants are asked to write and perform songs using the word “happy” or “humorous," or following a theme based on those words. Participating songwriters may perform their songs on acoustic instruments (amplified acoustic guitars are OK) or a cappella. We encourage solo performances, but songwriters may have an accompanist, also playing an acoustic instrument. The exception to the acoustic instrument rule is keyboard or electric bass is allowed.

There are no prizes and only two rules: Songs must be written specifically for this challenge and must be debuted at the event. The challenge starts at 7 p.m., though we encourage performers to arrive by 6:45 p.m. to select a performance slot on the sign-up sheet.

Join us as an Audience Member:
The event is free and open to the public. The concert begins at 7 p.m. and ends when all songwriters have performed.

To reach MCL Grand from Interstate 35E, take exit 452 and proceed east on Main Street to Charles Street. MCL Grand will be on the left. Free public parking is available along Main and Church streets, or at Lewisville City Hall across Church Street from the center.

For details about upcoming events, or rental information for the facility, please visit MCLGrand.com or call 972.219.8446.
