Peters Named Author for Texas Reading Club 2012 Manual Pat Peters, Youth Services Supervisor at Lewisville Public Library, will write the Toddler Chapter for the Texas Reading Club 2012 Manual, published by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. This is Pat’s second time to be chosen as a manual author, having written the Preschool Chapter for the Texas Reading Club 2011Manual. The Texas Reading Club is a program designed to encourage youth to read for pleasure and to promote library usage. A statewide theme is selected each year to emphasize ways in which reading expands young minds and encourages children to use their imaginations. The program aims to maintain and strengthen reading skills over the summer school break. It also reminds young people that reading can be great fun. “Get a Clue…at the Library!” is the 2012 theme for the Texas Reading Club. Each chapter includes books to read, books to recommend, songs, fingerplays and rhymes, games and activities, and craft ideas for eight topics related to the central theme. Librarians across the state use recommendations from the manual to purchase new titles, plan children’s classes and events, and develop their summer reading programs.
