CITY MANAGER’S WEEKLY UPDATE “Sounds of Lewisville” Finds New Home at MCL Grand The popular “Sounds of Lewisville” concert series, a free family favorite since 1990, will find a new home this year in the courtyard of the Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles Street in the heart of historic Old Town Lewisville. A total of 11 performances are scheduled, starting with a special engagement by Big Daddy Alright on Tuesday, April 12, that will be the first-ever live performance in the MCL Grand courtyard. Seven shows will be presented in June and July during the Summer series, and three more in October during the Fall series. “A tight budget forced us to cut back on the Sounds of Lewisville concerts last year, but we’re excited to bring them back with a full schedule in 2011,” said Mayor Dean Ueckert. “Having the shows in the MCL Grand courtyard also gives more people a chance to visit the new arts center and learn about some of the great shows and exhibits planned there. I heard from many residents who missed the free concerts and I’m glad we can bring back this terrific free family entertainment option.” All shows will be Tuesday nights starting at 7 p.m. Summer dates are from June 7 through July 19. Fall dates are Oct. 4, 11 and 18. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs, and food and coolers are permitted. Performers in the summer series include some fan favorites from past years as well as some groups new to the Lewisville stage. “Sounds of Lewisville” Special Engagement April 12 Big Daddy Alright “Sounds of Lewisville” Summer Concert Series June 7 Lone Star Attitude June 14 Van Gogh’s Ear June 21 N’Awlins Gumbo Kings June 28 Brave Combo July 5 Moving Colors July 12 Mojo Filter July 19 Breaking Southwest Performers will be announced in May for the Fall concerts. MCL Grand Set to Welcome “Greater Tuna” to Lewisville “Greater Tuna,” the show that launched a million laughs, will come to Lewisville for the first time next month with two performances at Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater featuring veteran Tuna actors Steven Einspahr and Sam DiRosa. The shows will be presented by Texas Family Musicals, which also performs popular award-winning shows in Granbury and Grapevine and will present the debut season of Lewisville Summer Musicals this June, July and August. Show times will be 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 8, and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 9. Tickets are $35, $30 or $28 depending upon seating. Discounts are available for groups of 12 or more. All ticket sales will be through Texas Family Musicals at its website, www.TexasFamilyMusicals.com, or by phone at 800.547.4697. Few shows have sustained the longevity and popularity that “Greater Tuna” has enjoyed. Thousands of people have howled with laughter while enjoying stories from the third-smallest town in Texas, where the Lions Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline is a goddess. The show began as a simple party skit based on a political cartoon more than 20 years ago in Austin. Talented creators Joe Sears, Jaston Williams and Ed Howard were the imaginative authors that parlayed the sketch into a critically acclaimed production that has entertained audiences across the country. The eclectic band of citizens that make up the town are portrayed by only two performers, making this satire on life in rural America even more delightful as they depict all of the inhabitants of Tuna – men, women, children and animals.
