CITY MANAGER’S WEEKLY UPDATE MCL Grand Announces Lineup for Inaugural Texas Tunes Concert Series Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater is bringing four Lone Star favorites to the stage this summer during the inaugural Texas Tunes concert series. Tickets will go on sale Monday, April 4. All four shows will start at 7:30 p.m. in the Performance Hall of the MCL Grand, 100 N. Charles Street, and will include a brief intermission. Tickets are $15 ($10 for seniors age 65 and older or children age 12 and younger) and can be purchased at MCLGrand.tix.com or at the Customer Service window at Lewisville City Hall, 151 W. Church Street, during regular business hours. Season tickets are available for $50 ($35 for seniors and children). Lewisville residents can purchase single-show tickets for $5 each, either in advance at City Hall or on the performance date at the MCL Grand box office. Current driver’s license or utility bill will be required to verify residency. The Texas Tunes series features performers from music halls and festivals throughout the state who present great music in a variety of genres, but all with that unique Texas flair that has made the state a hotbed for fans of live music. Terri Hendrix kicks off the series on April 22. Hendrix is a San Marcos-based contemporary folk singer and songwriter who recently performed at the 3rd Coast Music Showcase at the G&S Lounge in South Austin as part of the South By Southwest (SXSW) festival. In addition to recording more than a dozen albums of her own, she won a Grammy Award in 2002 for co-writing “Lil’ Jack Slade” for the Dixie Chicks. Her most recent album, “Cry Till You Laugh,” was released in 2010. The Derailers will take the stage on June 24. This Austin-based band was founded in 1994 by a pair of Portland, Ore., natives, and became a hit with the release of their first album, “Live Tracks,” in 1995 and a breakout performance at SXSW. With original member Brian Hofeldt now as the primary front man, The Derailers are popular among fans of Country and Americana music. Kelly Willis and her band are the featured act on Aug. 19. Willis is an Oklahoma native popular in the Austin music scene, who recently began touring outside of Texas again. Her music has been described as contemporary country, alternative country and traditional – a testament to her wide-ranging vocal and musical talents. Her most recent album, “Translated From Love,” was released in 2007 and was her fourth album to break into the national Country charts. Del Castillo wraps up the Texas Tunes series on Sept. 16. This five-member band started as a family project in the winter of 2000 and has since become a symbol of the cross-cultural power of music with their blend of Flamenco, rock, Latin and blues. The group is a multiple award-winner at SXSW and was named Best Live Act of 2004 by Austin Music Pundits. They have performed at three of Willie Nelson’s 4th Of July Picnics, and at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival. Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater, located at 100 N. Charles Street, between Main and Church streets, opened in January. The 40,000-square-foot facility features a 296-seat proscenium theater, black box theater, dance recital hall, art gallery, five art classrooms and a large courtyard. Medical Center of Lewisville reached a multi-year agreement with the city last year for naming rights at the center To reach the MCL Grand from Interstate 35E, take exit 452 and proceed east on Main Street to Charles Street. The MCL Grand will be on the left. Free public parking is available along Main and Church streets, or at Lewisville City Hall across Church Street from the center.
