CITY MANAGER’S WEEKLY UPDATE Recycling Moves to a Once-a-Week Schedule Starting the week of April 4, residential recycling in Lewisville will be collected weekly instead of the current every-other-week schedule. The schedule is available on-line at www.cityoflewisville.com. Recycling is not currently required at apartment complexes. City Council is researching a recycling program for apartment complexes citywide. In the meantime, apartment residents can recycle by taking materials to any of these free drop-off sites: • Memorial Park Recreation Center, 1950 South Valley Parkway • Municipal Annex, 1197 W. Main Street • Fire Station #5, 651 Waters Ridge • Residential Convenience Center, 330 W. Jones Street • College Street Park, 595 W. College Street (Paper only) Only the materials accepted in Lewisville’s recycling program can be placed in the cart. There are many items that are made of recyclable material, but some are not accepted at the recovery facility that processes our curbside recyclables. Put only the City’s list of accepted items in your recycling cart. For information regarding materials that may and may not be recycled, or for other information on recycling, contact Environmental Programs at 972.219.3503. MCL Grand Set to Welcome “Greater Tuna” to Lewisville “Greater Tuna,” the show that launched a million laughs, will come to Lewisville for the first time next month with three performances at Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater featuring veteran Tuna actors Steven Einspahr and Sam DiRosa. The shows will be presented by Texas Family Musicals, which also performs popular award-winning shows in Granbury and Grapevine and will present the debut season of Lewisville Summer Musicals this June, July and August. Show times will be 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 8, and 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 9. Tickets are $35, $30 or $28 depending upon seating. Discounts are available for groups of 12 or more. All ticket sales will be through Texas Family Musicals at its website, www.TexasFamilyMusicals.com, or by phone at 800.547.4697. Few shows have sustained the longevity and popularity that “Greater Tuna” has enjoyed. Thousands of people have howled with laughter while enjoying stories from the third-smallest town in Texas, where the Lions Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline is a goddess. The show began as a simple party skit based on a political cartoon more than 20 years ago in Austin. Talented creators Joe Sears, Jaston Williams and Ed Howard were the imaginative authors that parlayed the sketch into a critically acclaimed production that has entertained audiences across the country. The eclectic band of citizens that make up the town are portrayed by only two performers, making this satire on life in rural America even more delightful as they depict all of the inhabitants of Tuna – men, women, children and animals. Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater, located at 100 N. Charles Street between Main and Church streets, opened its doors in January. The 40,000-square-foot facility features a 296-seat proscenium theater, black box theater, dance recital hall, art gallery, five art classrooms and a large courtyard. Medical Center of Lewisville reached a multi-year agreement with the city last year for naming rights at the center. To reach the MCL Grand from Interstate 35E, take exit 452 and proceed east on Main Street to Charles Street. The MCL Grand will be on the left. Free public parking is available along Main and Church streets, or at Lewisville City Hall across Church Street from the center. For details about upcoming events, or rental information for the facility, please visit www.cityoflewisville.com or call 972.219.3401. The Committee decided to table the request indefinitely, as there was no conclusion that a change would be beneficial to the City, its residents, or its animals. An update was given on the status of the new Animal Shelter, and a brief synopsis of the successful Coyote Town Hall Meeting that had been held on Wednesday, March 2nd, was also given to the Committee.
