For the week of:
December 18, 2011

City Offices to Close for Christmas Holiday
City offices will be closed Friday, Dec. 23, and Monday, Dec. 26, in observance of the Christmas holiday. All essential services will continue to operate. Because there is no regular garbage or recycling collection on Sundays, the residential collection schedule will not be impacted by the holiday.

Christmas Tree Recycling Program Runs Through Jan. 18
Recycling Christmas trees helps to reduce waste, extend landfill life, provides useful compost and saves money. Starting Dec. 15 and running through Jan. 18, Christmas trees can be dropped off at the Lewisville Lake Park soccer fields (near Lake Park Road and North Mill Street) to be recycled into mulch.

Trees must be stripped of all nails, wire, ornaments, lights and tinsel prior to being dropped off. Free mulch will be available at the dropoff site between Dec. 30, and Jan 18, suitable for use in yards, gardens and flower beds, walkways, around trees and shrubs or for livestock bedding.

The program is sponsored by Keep Lewisville Beautiful and the City of Lewisville's Parks and Leisure Services. For more information, call KLB at 972.538.5949 or PALS at972.219.3550.

For the second straight year, Bassmaster will launch its Central Open Series at Lewisville Lake, giving anglers their first opportunity of 2012 to qualify for the prestigious Bassmaster Classic.

The local tournament will be held Feb. 9-11, launching from Lewisville Lake Park with final weigh-in to be held at Bass Pro Shops in Grapevine. The full field will compete the first two days of the tournament, with the top 12 pros and co-anglers moving on to a third day.

The 2012 Opens will award a Bassmaster Classic berth to the pro-side winner of each event, if the angler competes in the same division at all three Central Open Series tournaments.

“The 2013 Classic berth to the winner of each Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Open event makes each tournament in the series a high-stakes, premier event with the eyes of the industry anxious to see what angler can grasp that coveted invitation,” said Chris Bowes, B.A.S.S. senior tournament manager.

New Competitive Fishing Circuit Headed to Lewisville Lake in 2012
Lewisville Lake has been selected as one of five stops in the inaugural season of the Texas Team Trail fishing tournament circuit, launching in 2012. Anglers will visit Lewisville for a one-day event on Saturday, June 9.

The new circuit, designed exclusively for team competition, will debut March 10 at Sam Rayburn Lake and will make stops at Lake Ray Roberts and Lake Livingston before paying a visit to Lewisville. The series championship will be held Oct. 20-21 at Lake Amistad.

Registration is open online for the 2012 season at www.TexasTeamTrail.com.

“The Texas Team Trail will create tremendous opportunities for bass tournament anglers throughout the state of Texas,” said Tournament Director Mike Hastings. “The payout structure is incredible and with a low-cost, budget-friendly entry fee, anglers have a real opportunity to cash in. And when you consider the sponsor bonus contingency prizes available, there's just not another team trail in Texas that delivers this much value to the angler.”

For a $250 entry fee, anglers have a chance to win a fully equipped boat and motor package at every Texas Team Trail event. The year-end championship features two more boat and motor packages awarded to top teams. To qualify for the two-day Championship, anglers must fish all four qualifying events.

The new circuit will receive unprecedented television coverage not only across Texas, but across the country as a national audience will watch the action unfold from each event throughout the season on The Texas Channel, World Fishing Network, Pursuit Channel, and the new NBC Sports Network.

“We are looking forward to the opportunity to work with some great partners to build an exciting event for Texas anglers,” said Chris Sprangers, Brand Partnership Manager for circuit sponsor Cabela’s. “It’s great to be part of such a strong commitment to the sport of fishing.”
