Using Your Library Card


Library Card
A Lewisville Public Library Card will be issued to anyone at least 18 years old and presenting a valid government issued photo ID with a current address. If the ID does not have the current address, an alternate form of address verification may be presented such as a utility bill, lease agreement, car insurance, or delivered mail.

Guest Pass
A guest pass to use the library’s computers may be issued to anyone at least 18 years old and who presents a valid, government issued photo ID.

Check out
A Lewisville Public Library card is needed to checkout library materials. The library allows up to 25 items to be checked out on a card at one time. Media items such as DVDs, audio books, music, etc. are limited to 5 items per media type on a card at one time.

All items except DVDs check out for 3 weeks at a time. DVDs check out for 1 week at a time. Items may be renewed online or over the phone three times if no one has placed a hold on the item.

Items may be checked out and renewed on one of the library’s 3 self-checkout machines. The self-checkout machines also enable a card holder to review their account for information relating to items currently checked out, items on hold, and outstanding fees.

Check in
A drive-up book drop is located off Civic Circle on the west side of the building and is available 24 hours a day. Items may be returned through the drive-up book drop by 11:59 PM of the due date to avoid late fees. Inside book returns are located on the left side of the Accounts desk.

Items returned through any of our book returns are automatically checked in and cleared from the account. All items should be returned through one of the book returns prior to paying overdue charges at the Accounts desk.

Overdue Fees
The library charges fees of $0.25 per day per item for items returned or renewed late. Accumulated fines of more than $5.00 will prevent checkout or renewal of library items. Fines may be paid at the Accounts desk by credit card, check, or cash.

Holds
Holds may be placed online on any item that is currently unavailable in the Library with a limit of 10 items per card at any one time. The library offers notification by email or phone. Once the item becomes available the library will hold the item for 5 days. Only the card used to place the hold can check out the item.

Items may be picked up from the hold shelf located inside the library on the first floor. They are arranged alphabetically by the card holder’s last name and may be checked out using the self-checkout machines.

The drive-up window may be used for hold pickup with prior notification of 2 hours once the item is waiting on the hold shelf. Accounts must be current and with no outstanding fees in order to use the drive-up window.

Lost Cards
Call the library at 972.219.3570 to report all lost or missing library cards. Card holders are responsible for all items checked out on their card. A replacement card may be purchased for $1.00 at the Accounts desk.
