Residential Solid Waste Services

Residential Trash Services

Basic Services. Residential trash service is provided by Waste Management of Texas, Inc. Service is set up at the same time a resident sets up a water account with the City. New residents are required to pay a $10 deposit for solid waste services. Residents receive twice a week collection for household trash. Information on collection days for a specific address is available from Waste Management at 972-315-5400, the City’s Environmental Programs Office at 972-219-3503, or online through the City of Lewisville web site (www.cityoflewisville.com). The current monthly rate charged to residents is $12.30 per month. The charge appears on the monthly water bill and is paid by the resident to the City of Lewisville.

Containers. Trash can be set out in heavy duty trash bags or in trash cans with proper containment to prevent littering. Residents are required to place trash containers at the curb or alley collection location by 7 a.m. on the scheduled collection day. Containers should be removed from the curb or alley collection location within 24 hours of being emptied. Residents may not set out containers for trash that weigh more than 50 pounds when filled with waste.

Yard Waste. Yard waste can be set out with regular trash for collection. Acceptable yard waste includes leaves, yard trimmings, garden debris, and small brush (less than four (4) inches in diameter) which results from residential landscaping maintenance. Yard waste must be cut to no more than four (4) foot lengths and bundled not to exceed 35 pounds in weight. This collection service is included in the basic monthly charge for services. Larger amounts of yard waste should be set out on the second collection day of the week for bulky waste collection.

Bulky Waste. Trash service also includes once a week bulky waste collection. Bulky waste is limited in size to what could be manually loaded into the bed of a standard pickup truck.

The best alternative for metal appliances is to recycle them. Visit the City's recycling web page for recycling resources. Appliances that have contained Freon, PCB, or other liquid or gaseous compounds must have that product removed by a certified technician and be tagged prior to collection. Bulky waste is collected on the second trash collection day of the week. For example, if trash is collected on Tuesday and Friday, bulky waste would be collected on Friday. This collection service is included in the basic monthly charge for services.

Special Collection Services. Bulky waste or yard waste that exceeds the size and/or volume limitations described above will not be collected with regular trash or bulky waste. Stumps, roots, shrubs with intact root balls, and treated wood are not considered yard waste and will not be collected as such. Special collection services for these and similar items must be arranged directly with Waste Management. Payment for such services will be the responsibility of the resident.

Prohibited Materials. Some materials are not appropriate for household trash collection (e.g., large amounts of liquids, personal medical waste, large appliances, hazardous wastes, etc.), and questions regarding proper disposal of these materials should be directed to Waste Management at 972-315-5400 or the City’s Environmental Programs Office at 972-219-3503.

Residents may not set out any waste generated from a nonresidential source to be collected as residential waste. Soil, dirt, sand, concrete, or large amounts of residential construction and demolition waste may not be set out for residential collection service. These materials must be taken to the landfill for disposal.

Animal carcasses shall not be placed in containers or at collection points for residential collection services. Residents must contact the city’s Animal Control Services Division at 972-219-3478 for proper disposal of animal carcasses.

Household hazardous waste materials (HHW) should not be set out for collection in regular household trash. This includes paint, cleaning solvents, pool chemicals, pesticides, automotive fluids, batteries, ammunition, and other items marked as hazardous wastes. These items should be disposed of through the City’s HHW collection program. Information on this program is available online (View HHW Information) or by contacting the City’s Environmental Programs Office at 972-219-3503.

Free Landfill Privileges. Lewisville residents have the benefit of two free dumping privileges per month at the DFW Landfill located at 1601 S. Railroad Street. Residents must present a current water bill and a driver’s license with matching address to use these privileges. All loads brought to the landfill must be securely covered to prevent littering. DFW Landfill is open 24 hours a day until closing on Saturdays at 2:30 p.m. The Landfill reopens from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sundays and is then closed until midnight Sunday.
