Visitors can now check status on the Scion Skate Park and Dog Parks by calling 972-219-5077. This information will be updated as conditions warrant, and should prove to be a convenient way to check for availability of the park before going there.

Opened in October 2009, Toyota of Lewisville Railroad Park was developed in one phase and is the largest single capital project in the history of Lewisville. The sprawling park features sixteen sports fields, a dog park, a skate park, three lakes for irrigation, and a 1 1/2 mile perimeter walking/jogging trail designed to connect to the regional Trinity Trail.

The original Katy Train Depot once stood one mile north of the park and its railroad track just west of the park now serves the Denton County Transportation Authority's A-Train. The theme of the park embodies the deep tradition of the local rail service, which is emphasized in the structures that parallel the design of the original Katy Depot. Boxcars placed near the main park continue to play a key role in the life of the surrounding community just as the Katy Depot and rail service did years ago.

Amenities in the park include:
· Dog Park
· Scion Skate Park
· Baseball/Softball Complex
· Football Complex
· Soccer Complex
· Perimeter Walking/Jogging Trail
· Three Man-made Lakes

Baseball/Softball Complex
Four ball diamonds will allow a variety of play and tournaments to be held in Lewisville. The Premier Field will be dedicated to baseball and championship play with a grassed infield. The seating area is designed to replicate a nostalgic bandshell stadium effect. The other three fields will have skinned infields allowing flexibility to convert between baseball and softball of various age groups. Temporary outfield fencing will be utilized to vary the outfield distances conducive to the age groups. Seating areas are covered for spectator comfort. Scoreboards are located for all four fields to provide game information for all participants.

Negotiations are on-going with four youth baseball/softball organizations and two collegiate conferences for potential tournament scheduling. Those discussions include regional, state and national level competitions. The tournaments considered will average in size from 16 – 24 teams with approximately 15 players per team. Potentially, there will be three tournaments per month from February through October. This could potentially involve approximately 8,100 players per year (nine months x three tournaments x 20 teams avg. x 15 players avg. = 8,100).

Lewisville will be hosting the state Firefighter Olympics Softball Tournament in July, 2010. That tournament has been held in Lewisville two previous times and averaged 24 teams (360 players) from across the state.

Football Complex
The football complex will include four fields, two 100-yard regulation fields and two 80-yard fields for younger ages and flag football. Each field has covered bleachers and scoreboards for spectators and participants. Toyota of Lewisville Railroad Park will become the home site of the Lewisville Football Association and FlagFootballX adult leagues.

Currently, FlagFootballX plays three seasons per year. Each session averages 30 teams with an average of eight players per team (240 players x three seasons = 720 league players per year). In addition to league play, FlagFootballX has hosted area and state level tournaments. In November of 2008, FlagFootballX hosted a tournament comprised of 88 teams (88 x eight per team = 704 players).

The Lewisville Football Association provides play for ages 5 – 12 years. There are currently 43 teams with an average of 18 players and eight cheerleaders per team (1,118 participants). For the first time in the history of the program, the LFA will have a facility dedicated to football. The organization has always shared facilities with other youth sports groups. In addition to having the ability to expand the existing fall program, discussions are on-going regarding spring flag and 7-on-7 leagues and hosting summer camps for players, as well as certification seminars for coaches and officials.

Soccer Complex
Eight soccer fields have been constructed at Toyota of Lewisville Railroad Park (two 100-yard youth fields and six 120 yard regulation fields). In affiliation with the Greater Lewisville Area Soccer Association, the Lake Highlands Classic League will begin play in October, 2009. The Lake Highlands Classic League is one of the largest girls’ select team programs in the state. Most teams are based in the Metroplex, but teams also travel as far away as Midland/Odessa and Tyler. Games will be played on Saturdays and Sundays on five fields. The average number of games per weekend will be 45 (two teams x 15 players per team = 1,350 players per weekend). The Classic League will play two seasons of 8 – 10 weeks per season. GLASA will also sponsor league games during the week. The number of games and teams is to be determined, but initially they project six games per night x three nights per week. (six games x two teams x three nights x 15 players per team x 10 weeks x two seasons = 10,800 participants per year).

In addition to the youth programs, there are six adult teams participating in the North Texas Premier Association. They will also play home games on Sundays. Two games are scheduled each Sunday. (four teams x 20 players x 10 weeks x two seasons = 1,600 participants per year).

Lewisville will be hosting the State Firefighter Olympics Soccer Tournament in July, 2010. That tournament has been held in Lewisville one previous time and had 24 teams participate (192 players) from across the state.

Negotiations are on-going with two collegiate conferences regarding the possibility of hosting conference championship tournaments for Men’s and Women’s Divisions. These tournaments have six teams per division and the conferences involved are from across the State of Texas and also include teams from Oklahoma, Arkansas and Mississippi.

The City of Lewisville has entered into a three year contract to host the Panda Cup Soccer Tournament at Railroad Park. The Panda Cup is an international soccer event that features professional, collegiate, and competitive female soccer teams. The Panda Cup also schedules an array of games for boys and girls from U-6 through U-19 in varying levels of play. Other activities involve camps for the local players, exhibitions from professional teams as well as professional teams coming here to train for their upcoming seasons from places like Asia and Latin America. In addition, the Panda Cup offers soccer games and camps for the Special Olympics. The Panda Cup hopes to draw about 150 teams as well as 10-12 college and elite soccer teams for exhibition games.

In conjunction with the Greater Lewisville Area Soccer Association, the City will be pursuing other soccer tournaments. Among these is the Tournament of Champions Tournament, which will bring in league champions from area associations. Anticipated participation will be 60 teams (900 participants). In addition, we are looking for chances of hosting several college showcases, regional tournaments and adult tournaments for both men and women. Each of these tournaments has the potential of having 150-250 teams with 3,000 to 4,000 participants over a weekend. Another area with great potential is for adult tournaments, bringing in as many as 50-60 teams per date.

Lakes & Trails
Three man-made lakes are within the park. These lakes will provide a system for flood control and will be the irrigation source for the athletic fields, dog park and turf areas. No treated water will be used for irrigation. All drainage and run off is designed to flow back into the lake system. Rights have been obtained to pump water from the Trinity River to maintain a constant level in the event of a dry season or drought conditions. Liquid fertilization will be injected into the irrigation system, saving costs by providing a more accurate application and preventing waste. Texas Parks & Wildlife will be stocking the main lake with fish native to this region. Potential programming will include fishing clinics and small water craft classes for kayak & canoe.

A perimeter trail encompasses Toyota of Lewisville Railroad Park. Participants are encouraged to jog or walk around the park on the 1.5 mile track. The trail was designed to connect to the area-wide Trinity Trail System, once developed. Upon completion, the Trinity Trail will stretch from Dallas to Denton.

Participant Safety and Comfort
Participant safety is of the utmost concern. All spectator seating areas in all aspects of the park are shaded to provide protection from the heat and UV rays. Lightning detection systems and emergency warning sirens are installed to notify patrons of impending weather and allow a safe exit.

Four restrooms are placed in strategic areas. Three full service concessions and one vending area are provided for refreshments. Near the dog park entrances are transition areas to provide leashing/unleashing, waste disposal, wash stations and drinking & watering fountains.

The Musco Green Lighting System was installed. This system has the latest innovations for energy efficiency and spill & glare control features allow for a more constant light level without adding additional fixtures. The lighting system will be computer controlled and will only allow lights to be on when activities are scheduled.

On the northwest side of the property, a wetlands area will remain in natural form to provide a protected area for migrating & nesting birds and native wildlife.
