WATER TREATMENT PLANT
| The City of Lewisville’s drinking water maintains its rating of “Superior Public Water Supply,” the highest rating given by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, by meeting and exceeding state and federal standards. On June 2, 1999, the Lewisville Water Treatment Plant received its first Texas Optimization Program (TOP) award for meeting stringent water quality standards that are still in effect to date. Lewisville was the fourth public water system in Texas to achieve this high level of treatment efficiency.

The City of Lewisville gets most of its water from Lewisville Lake, but treated water is also purchased from the City of Dallas to supplement our supply. The City of Lewisville has a total system capacity of 30.4 million gallons per day (MGD), of which 18 MGD is produced at the Water Treatment Plant. The Water Treatment Plant recently underwent an expansion to increase the treatment capacity from the current 15 MGD to 18 MGD. An additional 12.4 MGD is available for purchase from Dallas Water Utilities.
Lewisville currently has an annual average daily consumption of 13.25 MGD. During the summer months when water demands are the greatest, the water system may experience daily demands as high as 26 MGD, while winter demands may dip as low as 10.0 MGD. The majority of the high usage in the summer can be attributed to irrigation and other outdoor water usage. For more information on how you can help conserve water, visit the Water Conservation site.
