Support Services Section The Support Services Section consists of a total of 50 full-time employees assigned to the following divisions or units: Records, Property and Evidence, Internal Affairs, Front Desk, Jail, Communications, Training (including the Lewisville Police Academy), and Data Processing. This operation provides support for all other Department units and directly serves the citizens of the community in a variety of ways. The Support Services Captain, Jay Powell, is responsible for the supervision of the Jail Division, Records Division, Crime Analysis, and Property and Evidence. Police Department Tours The Police Department does permit tours of the police facility by appointment only. It is a great outing for local civic and community groups. Interested groups (Third grade students and older, please.) will be able to view the Communications Center, the Briefing Room, and a Police car. For more information, contact Support Services Captain Jay Powell at (972) 219-3612, or by email. Jail Division The division has fifteen non-sworn Community Service Officers (CSOs) who staff the front desk and jail 24 hours a day, seven days a week. These employees assist the public at the desk by taking police reports, giving information, and other types of customer service. Ten CSOs staff the jail around the clock to provide supervision and custody of prisoners in the municipal holding facility. The Steve H. McFadden Law Enforcement Center opened the afternoon of Thursday, December 18th. The pod design of the new Center allows jail staff to monitor inmates more effectively and will house more than double our previous facility. Records Division The Records Division manages all police reports including Field Based Reports entered directly into the computerized Records Management System. There are four clerks and the Support Services Supervisor. Copies of police reports are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 p.m. Records can become available after-hours by contacting the Records Division during normal work hours. Costs of reports can vary so be sure and ask when you call (972) 219-3602 or Sandra Haggard, Support Services Supervisor, by e-mail. Crime Analysis The Crime Analysis section is staffed by a single crime analyst, Elizabeth Mayes, and she provides statistical support to all divisions and sections of the police department. Ms. Mayes is extremely proficient in the use of mapping technology along with data analysis using real-time crime data from the department's records management system, computer-aided dispatch system, and jail system. Ms. Mayes may be reached at 972-219-5085 or by e-mail. The Police Department reports statistics to the FBI's National Incident Based Report and to the members of the City Council each month. These statistics help provide benchmarks for us in determining the amount of local crimes being reported. To compare our department's figures against other agencies, go to the FBI Homepage and look for the NIBRS or Uniform Crime Report or visit the DPS Homepage for state crime reports. |
