Top-ranked eaters enter field for World Tamale Eating Championship
Some of the top-ranked competitive speed-eaters in the world have joined the field for the fourth annual World Tamale Eating Championship to be held Saturday, Sept. 27, in Old Town Lewisville. The event, organized by the Lewisville Convention and Visitors Bureau and officially sanctioned by the International Federation of Competitive Eating (IFOCE), is being held in conjunction with the popular Western Day festival.


Tamale-eating title back up for grabs at Lewisville’s Western Day festival
Some of the world’s finest, fastest eaters will meet in Lewisville on Saturday, Sept. 27, to compete for the title of the world’s top tamale eater in the fourth annual World Tamale Eating Championship.


“Sounds of Lewisville” concert series starts June 3
Eight top regional acts have been scheduled for the “Sounds of Lewisville” Summer Concert Series, presented for the 19th consecutive year by the City of Lewisville.


Entertainment announced for Cinco de Mayo festival
The entertainment schedule has been announced for Lewisville’s sixth annual Cinco de Mayo, to be held Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Main Street in the heart of Old Town Lewisville. Headlining the festival will be Grupo Sueno, Tyler Marco Band and The Image Band. Earlier in the day, crowds will enjoy shows by dance groups from Central Elementary School, Delay Middle School, Lewisville High School, and Dancers Workshop.


Women’s Bassmaster Tour returning to Lewisville on April 10-12
The Women’s Bassmaster Tour will visit Lewisville Lake for the third time in four years when the 2008 season kicks off on April 10-12. Previous stops in Lewisville included a preview event in October 2005, won by Pam Martin-Wells, and a 2006 regular-season event in May 2006, won Dianna Clark, the 2006 Toyota WBT Angler of the Year.


Cinco de Mayo festival moving to Main Street for 2008
Lewisville’s sixth annual Cinco de Mayo will be held Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Main Street in the heart of Old Town Lewisville.


FLW to bring Bass Fishing League to Lewisville Lake
FLW Outdoors will return to Lewisville Lake on March 2008 to hold a one-day qualifying tournament in the Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League series. Up to 400 anglers will split a total prize purse of $45,000 in the event, scheduled for March 8.


Pets, pet-lovers given large role in Western Day festival
Four-legged festival-goers will play a large role in Lewisville’s Western Day event being held Saturday, Sept. 1, in Old Town Lewisville. Planned activities include a Children’s Pet Parade and the new Tailwaggers Ranch pet area.


Preservation group bringing pies, history to Western Day festival
Old Town Preservation Society (OTPS) will hold pie-eating and pie-baking contests during the 2007 Western Day festival in Old Town Lewisville on Saturday, Sept. 1. The group also will provide history information and tours at the fabled Lewisville Feed Mill throughout the event.


Cinco de Mayo festival to feature top Latin entertainers
A Grammy winner and a White House favorite are among the performers slated for Lewisville’s fifth annual Cinco de Mayo festival on Saturday, May 5, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Whatley Street between Mill and Kealy in Old Town.


City begins statewide search for new police chief
City Manager Claude King announced today that a statewide search for the city’s next police chief will begin this week. The goal is to complete the search and make a job offer as early as mid-April.
