Preservation group bringing pies, history to Western Day festival
Wednesday, August 15, 2007
Old Town Preservation Society (OTPS) will hold pie-eating and pie-baking contests during the 2007 Western Day festival in Old Town Lewisville on Saturday, Sept. 1. The group also will provide history information and tours at the fabled Lewisville Feed Mill throughout the event.
The festival will kick off at 10 a.m. with a Main Street parade, headed by a herd of Longhorn steers, and end with a free concert by the Randy Rogers Band from 6:30 to 8 p.m. In between, there will be children’s activities, live music, food and merchandise vendors, Western re-enactments, a car show and much more. Western Day is presented free by the City of Lewisville and the Lewisville Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The OTPS activities will take place at the Feed Mill, 119 E. Main Street. Currently owned and operated by local historian and Lewisville native James Polser, the mill is the longest continuously operating business in Lewisville, having first opened its doors in 1886.
A children’s pie-eating contest will be held at 11:30 a.m., pitting groups of local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. The pie-baking contest is open to the public, with judging at 3:30 p.m. For entry information, please send e-mail to fairellis@yahoo.com.
Free shuttle parking for the festival will be available at Lewisville High School, 1098 W. Main Street, from 3 to 10 p.m.
