CITY MANAGER’S WEEKLY UPDATE
For the week of:
November 9, 2008

CDBG Public Hearings Scheduled
The CDBG Advisory Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2 (tentatively at Lakeland Elementary) and Tuesday, December 9 (tentatively at Shepherd's House Church on Milton) to conduct public hearings and will cancel their normal meetings of November 18 and December 16. The Committee holds public hearings every year before beginning its next budget cycle. By February, the City will release a Request for Proposals announcing availability of federal funds through the Community Development Block Grant Program (this year the City received $569,895). Fifteen percent of the funds are reserved for public services and are generally allocated to social service agencies after a review of applications in the spring. Other proposals are received from City staff and non-profit agencies for Housing and Community Development projects. Generally, funding must be used to assist low-to-moderate income households, neighborhoods or clientele. Residents' comments help the committee identify and prioritize community needs for social services, affordable housing and neighborhood revitalization.
