Environmental report available for DCTA commuter rail project

The Final Environmental Impact Determination document for the Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) regional rail project now is available for public viewing. It can be accessed on-line at http://www.raildcta.net/documents.asp?area=rail or in person at the DCTA offices located at 1660 S. Stemmons, Suite 250, in Lewisville. The document also can be requests on a computer CD by calling the DCTA at 972.221.4600.

Because the DCTA rail project will not use federal funds for capital construction, local approval of the environmental document is appropriate. The local approving authority for the RailDCTA Final Environmental Impact Determination (FEID) will be the DCTA Board of Directors. The board is expected to approve the document at its next regular meeting on April 24.

Local approval will allow engineering and design activities to be expedited, which will help keep the project on schedule to operate service by late 2010. Early completion of the project will provide travelers with options for dealing with construction related to congestion on Interstate 35E.

The FEID document contains no significant changes from the draft document. Comments received during the 45-day review and comment period for the draft appear in the final version, along with responses. The comments include those from both regulatory and resource agencies, and the public.

Water customers offered discount for bank-draft payments

Lewisville water customers who pay their monthly bills through an automatic bank draft will receive a $1.50 discount on each month’s bill. The discount was approved by the City Council because bank drafts are the more economic way for the city to handle payments, and the council opted to pass some of those savings back to the customers who use the drafting service. Bank draft payment can be arranged by calling Customer Service at 972.219.3440. Customers also must provide a copy of a voided check in order to initiate the drafting service.

TollTags now available at Lewisville City Hall

North Texas Tollway Authority TollTags now can be purchased at Lewisville City Hall, 151 W. Church Street. Customers can complete a TollTag application during the city’s regular operating hours using an electronic kiosk located in front of the Utility Billing counter. A receipt will be printed at the customer service desk, where the TollTag will be issued.

In order to obtain a TollTag, customers need their license plate number, year, make, model and color of the vehicle that will be using the TollTag.

The TollTag is a small credit-card sized device mounted behind the rear view mirror on the inside of the windshield of a vehicle. Each subsequent toll transaction is automatically deducted from a $40 prepaid account at a 20-25 percent discount per transaction, depending on which plaza the customer passes through. When the balance of the prepaid account falls below $10, the credit card on file is automatically recharged another $40.
