Short Term Military Leave Policy


Purpose

To provide authorized short-term military duty leave or absence and pay for all regular, full-time employees who participate in the United States Armed Forces Reserve, States Military Forces, or National Guard.

Summary

Eligibility:

  • Military Services
  • Active Service
  • Reserve Units
  • National Guard
  • Other Special Unit

    Days Per Year:
  • Up to Fifteen Days/year

    Notification:
  • Submit Copy of Order, Directive, or Other Document Requiring Employee to Report for Duty

    The employee will be paid full salary by the City for each day partially or wholly spent in performing such duty if the employee otherwise would have been scheduled to work for the City.

    If military service extends beyond fifteen (15) days in a calendar year, the employee will be treated in accordance with applicable state and federal laws. Requests for leave beyond the fifteen (15) days will be reviewed with respect to an employee's vacation leave balance and organizational needs.

    An employee will continue to accrue benefits during the approved military leave.

    The employee may utilize, at his option, part of his 15 day entitlement to paid military leave for weekend drills, in lieu of taking vacation time off.
