CITY MANAGER’S WEEKLY UPDATE
For the week of:
March 30, 2008

Code RED Emergency Notification System
The City of Lewisville has instituted the CodeRED Emergency Notification System - an ultra high-speed telephone communication service for emergency notifications. This system allows telephone calls to all or targeted areas of the City in case of an emergency situation that requires immediate action including:
      Crime Alerts
      Missing Persons
      Hazardous Materials Spills
Water Emergencies (Outages, Boil Water Notices)
      Public Health Emergencies
      Shelter-In-Place or Evacuation Messages
      Sheltering Information
      Wide-Spread, Extended Power Outages
The system is capable of dialing 60,000 phone numbers per hour. It then delivers a pre-recorded message describing the situation to a live person or an answering machine in the affected area possibly including instructions requiring action on the part of the recipient. Once the situation is remedied, another call will be placed to the area signaling that the issue has been addressed and that normal activities can be resumed.

A city-wide test of the CodeRED Emergency Notification System was recently conducted. Every business and residential phone number currently in the database was called. If you are a Lewisville resident and did not receive a test call and would like to be added to the data base to receive notification, visit the City's website and sign your family up for the system. By signing up you will ensure that we have the most accurate information for your household in the event of an emergency.

Senior Center Celebrates St. Patrick’s Day
The Lewisville Senior Center celebrated its annual St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon on Friday March 14th. The seniors got to eat corn beef and cabbage, sing Irish songs and a surprise visit from a Leprechaun (PALS Staff Member Josh McClain). The Leprechaun handed out goodies from his pot of gold and posed for pictures.

Housing Grant Program Celebrates Success with Open House
The Community Development Department, the McKenzie/Hembry/Tanglewood Neighborhood Association and Mrs. Dorothy Brown hosted an open house on Saturday, March 22 to celebrate the construction of Mrs. Brown’s new home at 218 Birch Street. Mrs. Brown is the recipient of a HOME grant for owner-occupied housing rehabilitation. Hers is the last of six houses assisted by the program, but is the only one that needed complete reconstruction. The other five houses needed things such as painting, window replacement, foundation work, HVAC replacement and energy improvements.

Mrs. Brown's home was in need of even more work and it was determined that complete replacement of her home was the best course of action. Using a combination of HOME grant and Lewisville Housing Finance Corporation funds, her old home was demolished and a new 1110 s.f. house was designed and built for the same lot. D Construction Services was the general contractor. The entire project was completed for about $70 per square foot.
