Economic Development and Planning


Economic Development and Planning Department is a multi-functional division, overseeing land-use through administration of the Zoning Ordinance and General Development Ordinance as well as managing various community Grant Programs. Zoning is comprehensive in scope, encompassing land use, zoning, planning, plat and plan review. Coordination is provided between public needs and private rights using zoning to implement land use regulations after public hearings with the Planning & Zoning Commission, City Council and Board of Adjustment. Staff maintains zoning maps and files and reviews plats and engineering site plans. The planning function analyzes development trends, then works with other divisions and departments to forecast a wide range of future needs, including transportation, public works and other capital improvement planning to information needs for industrial and commercial recruitment.
