How do I obtain a copy of a police or accident report?
Copies of police and accident reports are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 p.m. at the Police Department Records windows. The Police Department is located at 1187 W. Main St.
In order to obtain a copy of an accident report, you must complete a form providing any two of the following three items: Location of accident, Name of a person involved, or the Date of the Accident. The fee for motor vehicle crash reports retrieved on-line or in person from the police department Records Section is $6.00. Effective August 3, 2009, motor vehicle crash reports generated on August 3, 2009 or thereafter will be available online. Reports can be accessed through the following website http://lewisvilletx.policereports.us, or by following the link on the Obtain Online Crash Reports section on this site.
Police crime reports are considered an ‘Open Record’ and portions are available to anyone upon request free of charge provided the report does not exceed 30 pages. How do I find a Bonding Company?
Please follow this link to the Denton County Website. There you will find an up to date list of approved bonding companies.
Where do I pay a ticket?
Tickets issued by Lewisville Police Officers can be paid at the Lewisville Municipal Court, 1197 W. Main Street (the building due west of the police department).
Tickets issued by the Department of Public Safety can be paid at the Lee Walker Government Center located at 190 N. Valley Parkway (building north of the Fire Department).
How do I report a crime or traffic problem?
For emergencies, traffic accidents, and crimes in progress, call 911.
For suspicious activity, report only calls for insurance, or other non-emergency requests for service, call 972-219-3600.
To provide information regarding a crime, call the Crime Tip Hotline at 972-219-8477 (TIPS).
For traffic-related issues such as chronic speeding complaints and red light running, call the Traffic division at 972-219-3606.
Where do I register my car?
Denton County allows vehicle registration at the following locations:
· Any Tom Thumb or Sack and Save grocery store in Denton County
· Any Tax Office location (Denton at 300 E. McKinney St and Lewisville at 190 N. Valley Parkway, north of the police department)
Be sure and bring identification and proof of insurance with you.
How do I make a Public Information Request?
All Public Information Requests must be made in writing to Support Services Supervisor Sandra Haggard. Be very specific in your request for information as only that information requested will be reviewed. The police department, by law, may take up to 10 working days to respond to such requests. Your requests may be dropped off in person, mailed, or sent via fax. For more information, please contact the Records Department at 972-219-3602.
Where can I get fingerprints made?
The Police Department will fingerprint you for security clearances or licensing as required by employers. Come to the Police Department and see the Desk Officer. The fee is $10.00 per card. This service is offered to the public Wednesday and Thursdays 8:00 a.m - 10:00 a.m. and Mondays and Tuesdays 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
