City Communications Team Named Four-time Finalist in State Award Program
The City of Lewisville has received four finalist notifications from the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers (TAMIO) for its annual Tami Awards program. Winners will be announced Friday, June 13, at the group’s state conference in San Antonio.

Lewisville is a finalist for its Tourism Rack Cards set, Western Day commercial, Holiday at the Hall commercial and the 2007 Holiday at the Hall festival. Lewisville has received three Tami Awards previously, for Cable Special Program in 2002 and for Best Special Event and Outstanding Marketing Plan in 2006.

Formed in 1976, TAMIO was developed as a result of the increasingly complex role of public information in municipal government. TAMIO actively seeks to advance and promote the cooperation and exchange of information and ideas among Texas cities, provide professional development for public information and communications professionals who work in municipal government or similar agencies, and provide public relations assistance where possible to Texas municipalities.

TAMIO is an affiliate organization of the Texas Municipal League, which represents 98 percent of Texas’ urban population through its 1,000-plus member cities and towns.

The Tami Awards program was started in 2002 as a way to recognize outstanding communications efforts by Texas cities and related local government agencies. This year’s awards program drew more than 200 entries in a range of video, print and marketing categories.

Shown below are all finalists in the three divisions involving Lewisville. A complete list of finalists is available on-line at www.texastamio.org.

DCTA Extends Hours of Lewisville-Highland Village Bus Route
The Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) will increase its weekday service hours on Connect Route 22, which serves Highland Village and Lewisville, effective Monday, June 9. Route 22 currently begins at 9:15 a.m. on weekdays, but now will start at 7:15 a.m. to better accommodate the retail development along Connect Route 22. Weekend service hours will not change.

The route provides a transportation alternative along the heavily congested FM 407 corridor and provides direct access to The Marketplace at Highland Village, The Shops of Highland Village, the new AMC Theatre and the new Wal-Mart, with additional stops near Morris, Highland Village Road, Sellmeyer and Garden Ridge. Riders can transfer to other Connect routes in Lewisville near the city’s Municipal Annex on Main Street and Civic Circle.
