Below are descriptions of several positions at the Lewisville Police Department. Please follow this link to find out if we are hiring.

Detention Officer--Performs duties related to the intake, processing, and detention of prisoners as well as responding to citizen inquiries.

Communications Supervisor--Supervises police civilian shift personnel assigned to dispatch. Schedules, coordinates, and controls personnel on shift. Evaluates performance and maintains discipline. Informs personnel of new or changing policy, procedures or legal developments. Coordinates operations involving regional, state, and national automated databases.

Public Safety Call Taker--Operates telephone and computer equipment to receive and enter information related to incoming 911 and administrative calls. Maintains logs and records of all activity, as required. Provides support information to police officers, fire units, the general public and other public safety agencies, as required.

Public Safety Dispatcher--Operates radio, telephone & related communications equipment to receive & relay information; prioritizes & assigns appropriate resources for emergency & non-emergency service calls for assigned area of responsibility. Maintains log & records of all activity as required. Provides support information to police officers, fire units, the general public & other agencies as required.

Qualifications & Requirements
    • Be a U.S. Citizen
    • Be at least twenty-one (21) years of age at the time of the written examination.
    • Be a high school graduate or have obtained a G.E.D. and 12 hours of college, or 2 years of active military service with an honorable discharge (applies only to non-certified applicants).
    • Be fingerprinted and subjected to a search of records to disclose a criminal record.
    • Driving record in compliance with City of Lewisville driving policy.
    • Be able to identify license plate numbers of automobiles at six (6) car lengths while traveling 60 mph. This requires vision correctable to 20/20 binocular for all hours of the day including day, evening and night.
    • Possess ability to distinguish between red, green, and yellow in order to accurately describe suspects and vehicles and to identify traffic lights and sign colors.
    • Be able to successfully pass a validated physical ability test.
    • Be able to successfully pass a background investigation.
    • Be able to successfully pass a post-offer physical examination, psychological examination and a drug screen.
    • Meet all required TCLEOSE requirements to be licensed as a police officer to include:
        • Has not ever been on court ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense above the grade of Class B Misdemeanor, or a Class B Misdemeanor within the last ten years from the date of the court order.
        • Has never been convicted of a felony or Class A Misdemeanor Offense.
        • Has not been convicted of a Class B Misdemeanor within the last ten years.
        • Not have been discharged from the military service under less than honorable conditions.
        • Not have had a commission license denied by final order or revoked, or have a voluntary surrender of license currently in effect
          Special Requirements:
            • Must pass written exam - You will NOT be notified to come to a test. It is your responsibility to come to one of the scheduled tests. Please apply on-line at www.cityoflewisville.com. ***An application MUST be submitted to Human Resources prior to testing.
            • Successfully pass a validated physical ability test.
            • Successfully pass a background investigation
            • Successfully pass a post-offer physical, psychological, and drug test.
