CITY MANAGER’S WEEKLY UPDATE
For the week of:
January 13, 2008
Planning and Zoning Commission Meeting
The Planning and Zoning Commission held a short meeting on January 8th. The first order of business was to elect a new chairman due to the resignation from the Commission of Ron Aljoe, the previous chairman. Rod Russell, who had been serving as vice-chairman, was elected as the new chairman of the Commission. Jim Gallegos was chosen as the new vice chairman. The remaining items on the agenda were the consideration of a plat and two zone change requests. The plat for the Storage Super Center Addition was tabled to the January 22nd meeting as requested by the applicant, allowing the engineers of the project time to obtain all of the necessary signatures on the plat. The first zoning case had three properties associated with it, bounded by Purnell Street, Cowan Avenue and Edwards Street. The applicant, First Assembly of God Church, is requesting a zone change from Single-Family Residential (R-7.5) to Old Town Mixed Use Two (OTMU2) zoning in order to expand their facilities on these sites. No one spoke for or against the item. A motion was made to recommend approval of the zone change request. The motion passed unanimously. The second zoning case involved the Lewisville Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Lake Park Road. They have bought a neighboring lot and hope to expand their facility. They are requesting a zone change from Local Commercial and Duplex Zoning to Medical District Zoning on their existing lot as well as the adjacent, newly purchased lot. The Commission voted to recommend approval of the zone change request unanimously.
