In order to qualify for the position of Police Officer, applicant shall:
- Be a U.S. Citizen
- Be at least twenty-one (21) years of age at the time of the written examination.
- Be a high school graduate or have obtained a G.E.D. and 12 hours of college, or 2 years of active military service with an honorable discharge (applies only to non-certified applicants).
- Be fingerprinted and subjected to a search of records to disclose a criminal record.
- Driving record in compliance with City of Lewisville driving policy.
- Be able to identify license plate numbers of automobiles at six (6) car lengths while traveling 60 mph. This requires vision correctable to 20/20 binocular for all hours of the day including day, evening and night.
- Possess ability to distinguish between red, green, and yellow in order to accurately describe suspects and vehicles and to identify traffic lights and sign colors.
- Be able to successfully pass a validated physical ability test.
- Be able to successfully pass a background investigation.
- Be able to successfully pass a post-offer physical examination, psychological examination and a drug screen.
- Meet all required TCLEOSE requirements to be licensed as a police officer to include:
- Not on court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense above the grade of a Class C misdemeanor.
- Not have been convicted of a misdemeanor offense above the grade of a Class C misdemeanor within the past 10 years.
- Not have been discharged from the military service under less than honorable conditions.
- Not have had a commission license denied by final order or revoked, or have a voluntary surrender of license currently in effect.
