Flag retirement ceremony set for May 19
Lewisville Morning Rotary Club, with participation from First Baptist Church’s Voices of Praise Choir and local boy and girl Scouts, will hold a formal U.S. and Texas flag retirement ceremony Saturday, May 19, 1-2 p.m., in the courtyard of Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles Street. The public is invited to participate and witness this solemn patriotic event.
U.S. Flag code prescribes that when a flag is in such a condition that it no longer is a fitting emblem for display, it should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning. Since burn bans and city ordinances make it difficult for an individual to properly burn a flag in a dignified way to retire it, Lewisville Morning Rotary Club is collecting flags from individuals and businesses who need to retire them. Collection boxes for unserviceable flags have been placed at City Hall and the MCL Grand, or flags can dropped off year-round at any Lewisville fire station.
For information, please call the MCL Grand at 972.219.8446.
