CITY MANAGER’S WEEKLY UPDATE
For the week of:
February 24, 2008

Primary Election Early Voting Continues Through Feb. 29 at Municipal Annex
Early voting for the March 4 Primary Election will continue at the Lewisville Municipal Annex, 1197 W. Main Street, according to the following schedule:
Feb 23 -- 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Feb 24 -- 1 to 6 p.m.
Feb 25-29 -- 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Voters in Texas are not required to declare a party when they register to vote and thus may vote in either the Democrat or Republican primary, but can only vote in one of the primaries. When a voter casts a ballot in one party’s primary, they are affiliated with that party for the next two years and cannot vote in primary or run-off elections for any other party during that time. This does not affect a voter's ability to vote for candidates of either party in a general or a special election.

Lewisville residents may vote early at any of the Denton County voting locations, but on March 4 voters must cast ballots at their precinct-specific voting location. Election Day voting hours will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters can find their voting location on Election Day by calling 940.320.VOTE. Voters who do not know their precinct number can call 940.349.3200 or visit http://elections.dentoncounty.com.

Registration Starts March 31 for WAVE Swim Team
Resident registration for the Lewisville WAVE Swim Team, conducted through the Lewisville Parks and Leisure Services Department, will begin on March 31 for the 2008 season. Non-resident registration will start on April 3. All registration will end on April 5.

WAVE Swim Team is open to all participants ages 5 and up to compete in a variety of swimming events in a range of age divisions. Swimmers must be able to easily swim one 25-yard length of the pool without stopping, and must live within the Lewisville ISD boundaries or outside the district in the cities of The Colony and Carrollton. Swimmers age 14 and younger already registered with USS swimming for 2008 are ineligible.

The team will compete with other city teams in four circuit meets (June 14, June 21, June 28 and July 11-12). Swimmers will compete in the TAAF Region IV meet on July 11-12 with a chance to qualify for the TAAF State Meet in San Antonio on July 24-27.

A swim team preview session will be held at the LISD Natatorium in Flower Mound on Saturday, March 29, at 10 a.m. This is an opportunity for swimmers (and parents) to meet coaches and the Parent Committee and learn more about the program before joining. There is no fee for the preview session, and participation in the preview does not obligate a swimmer to join the team for the full season.

Cost is $87 per swimmer for residents of Lewisville and Castle Hills, $96 for all others. Optional costs include team photos and team swimsuit.

For registration information, call 972.219.3550 or visit www.cityoflewisville.com.

Hearts & Roses Ball
On February 1, 2008 the first Hearts & Roses Ball combination dance of the Daddy Daughters and Mothers & Son Dances was held at the Hilton Garden Inn. There were 466 attendees at his red carpet semi-formal affair. It was spectacular! The evening consisted of a formal meal, a chicken with alfredo sauce over Penne Rigate pasta, salad, garlic bread and cheesecake for dessert all of which was served by the Hilton wait staff. After dinner Cindy Dorber, who has been a dance instructor for 10 years with Parks & Leisure Services, gave dance instructions to the waltz and line dance. DJ Jon Stricklan, was the evenings DJ and he really kept the party jumping. Between the limbo, slow dances and the favorite tunes of today, Jon held the attention of the children and parents alike. The room was filled with laughter and dancing all night. What a joyous and unforgettable evening it was for all. Next year this event will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2008 so mark your calendars. This is one event you do not want to miss. Look for more information in our Fall 2008 WOW brochure.

Lewisville Municipal Court Clears Hundreds of Cases in Warrant Roundup
The Lewisville Municipal Court cleared hundreds of cases during a statewide warrant roundup on Saturday, February 16, collecting tens of thousands of dollars in outstanding fines and penalties. More than 2,000 notices were sent prior to the roundup notifying people that they were subject to arrest if they did not clear their outstanding warrants. No amnesty was offered, but Municipal court officials said many people called and made arrangements to clear their warrants after receiving the postcards. During the roundup, 16 Lewisville police officers visited known home or work addresses of 369 people. Those visited resulted in 23 arrests.

Great State Wide Warrant Roundup is an annual effort by courts across Texas to actively enforce warrants for individuals who either have not appeared in court as required or who have failed to satisfy a court judgment. Lewisville was participating for the second time.
