Computers, Printing and Wireless Internet The Lewisville Public Library provides free access to 60 public use computers to library cardholders in good standing. Computers are located in the Youth Services area, Information Services area downstairs, Computer Lab downstairs, and Adult Services area upstairs. Youth Services--PCs dedicated to children 12 years old or younger
Computer Access--Anyone with a valid Lewisville Public Library card can use the library computers. Patrons can use an available PC by entering their valid library card number and their last name. Time Limits—Patrons may login to the Lewisville Public Library computers for a 60 minute session. If there are no reservations pending for a computer, a computer user will be offered a 20 minute extensions on his or her session. If a reservation has been made for a computer, the session will end after the allocated 60 minutes. A countdown clock is displayed on the computer screen to indicate the amount of time left in a session. PC Reservations—If all of the computers are currently in use, patrons can reserve the next available PC at the Lewisville Public Library by logging into a PC Reservation Station (located downstairs in the Copy and Print Area and upstairs in the Print Center) or asking at the Information Desk downstairs or Adult Services Desk upstairs. Reservations can only be made for the next available PC. Saving—Patrons can bring USB drives or 3 ¼ floppy disks to save documents. USB drives can be plugged into USB ports at each PC. Floppy drives can be checked out at service desks with a valid library card. Printing—Patrons can print using the library public use PCs. The library offers black & white printing and color printing. Black & white printouts are 15¢ per page. Color printouts are 50¢ per page. Payment is made at a coin/dollar bill machine when the print job is released. Headphones—Patrons can bring headphones to use at the library public use computers. Headphones for children using the Youth Services educational games PCs can be checked out at the Youth Services Desk. Wireless—The Lewisville Public Library provides free wireless Internet connectivity service for library customers with wireless enabled laptops throughout the entire library building. All individuals utilizing the wireless system should act in accordance with the City of Lewisville, Lewisville Public Library Internet Policy. Copies are also available at any service desk in the library. Laptop owners are responsible for setting up their equipment to access the Lewisville Public Library wireless network. Library staff are unable to handle customer laptops or peripheral equipment. Library staff are unable to provide assistance in getting connected to the wireless network, troubleshoot problems related to wireless devices or assist in making changes to your device's network settings and/or hardware configuration. The Library cannot guarantee that your device will work with the Library's wireless access points. Wi-Fi is less secure than a wired network. Virus and security protection are the responsibility of the laptop owner. The Lewisville Public Library is not liable for the consequences of wireless network use in any way, including the transmission of computer viruses, loss of data or e-mail, security breeches of personal/private information, or any harm resulting from the use of an unsecured server. |
