CITY MANAGER’S WEEKLY UPDATE Plans Announced for 2011 “Holiday at the Hall” Event Lewisville will kick off the Christmas season with its annual “Holiday at the Hall” celebration on Saturday, Dec. 3, in Old Town Lewisville. Many of the activities will be held in and around the new Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater at 100 N. Charles Street. The day will kick off at 8 a.m. as Greater Lewisville Kiwanis Club holds its annual Breakfast With Santa, serving pancakes, sausage and juice in the Recital Hall of the MCL Grand. Tickets are $1 for children ages 2 and younger, $3 for children ages 3-12, and $5 for guests ages 13 and older. Santa Claus will be on hand from 8 to 10:45 a.m. in the Gallery at MCL Grand to meet with children and pose for photos. Breakfast tickets also include one Santa photo ticket per family. Additional photos, or photos without the purchase of a breakfast ticket, are $6 each. The breakfast ends at 11 a.m. Kiwanis members will sell hot dogs at the MCL Grand from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. A meal for $5 includes hot dog, chips and drink. Individual hot dogs will be available for $3 each. All proceeds benefit community projects conducted by Greater Lewisville Kiwanis Club. Children’s crafts will be available in the MCL Grand classrooms. Children can create free hand-made crafts with City volunteers, and also can make a decorated stick horse for $5 suitable for the Stick Horse Rodeo held by Kiwanis at the annual Western Days festival in September. Old Town Preservation Society will hold its annual Gingerbread House Contest inside the MCL Grand. Entries can be delivered between 8 and 9:45 a.m., with judging at 10 a.m. Awards will be presented in four categories – elementary school, middle school, high school, and adult – plus a $100 grand prize for the overall winner. All entries will remain on public display at MCL Grand through Dec. 25. There is a $5 entry fee. For information, please call 972.436.4806 or email kentgellis@msn.com. A lineup of community performers will open on the Performance Hall stage at 8:30, with live entertainment scheduled through 2 p.m. The lineup starts with storytime with Mrs. Claus, presented by Lewisville Public Library. Scheduled performers include LakeCities Ballet Theatre, Lewisville Civic Chorale, Studio B Performing Arts Center, Dancers Workshop, Texas Karate Center and Nadi El-Raks Performing Troupe. The 13th annual Motorcycle Toy Run will open registration at 9 a.m. and participants will leave Old Town at 11:15 a.m. for a parade through Lewisville. Riders will return to Old Town after completing the course. Spector’s Gun Collection, fresh off a well-received Sounds of Lewisville concert in October, will perform before and after the run on an outdoor stage at the corner of Charles and Main. Entry fee is one new unwrapped toy (minimum $10 value) to be donated to Denton County Foster Parents Association, Denton County Child Protective Services and Children’s Advocacy Center for Denton County. More than 1,000 toys were collected last year. Pre-registration is available at Frederick P. Herring Recreation Center, 191 Civic Circle, or Memorial Park Recreation Center, 1950-B S. Valley Parkway. The first 200 registrants will receive a 2011 Motorcycle Toy Run pin. Registration includes lunch after the run, provided by Hooter’s. For information, call 972.219.3560. The 2011 Christmas Parade, sponsored by Sam Pack’s Ford Country of Lewisville, will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the corner of Main Street and Cowan and will proceed through Old Town on Main to Mill, then south to Purnell. Parade entry applications are available at www.CityofLewisville.com. At the conclusion of the parade (about 1:45 p.m.), children of all ages are invited to Wayne Ferguson Plaza to help decorate the Community Christmas Tree. This first-time tree-trimming event will allow participants to help uniformed city employees place hand-crafted ornaments on the 30-foot artificial tree on the north side of Main Street in the heart of Old Town Lewisville. Activities inside the MCL Grand will end at 2 p.m. Admission to the celebration is free, except as described above. Free public parking is available at Lewisville City Hall, 151 W. These real-life Broadway and opera stars are ready to warm your holidays with a classic, pop and deep-fried fest of musical delights. Those singing trailer park angels are packing their festive Christmas mullets and will be dashing through the snow just in time for some down-home holiday cheer with “3 Redneck Tenors Christmas SPEC-TAC-YULE-AR,” written and directed by Matthew Lord with musical arrangements by award winning composer Craig Bohmler. The show currently is running at The Mansion Theatre in Branson, Missouri.
