CITY MANAGER’S WEEKLY UPDATE City Offices to Close for New Year’s Holidays City offices will be closed on Friday, Jan. 1, in observance of the New Year’s Day holiday. All essential city services will continue to operate. The residential garbage and recycling schedule will not be affected. Tree recycling Available Through January Keep Lewisville Beautiful is encouraging everyone this year to recycle their live Christmas tree. Trees stripped of all decoration can be taken to the drop-off near the soccer field parking lot at Lake Park & Mill Street through Jan. 14. The trees will be chipped up to be used as mulch, which saves precious landfill space and we are able to reuse the trees. Any mulch left on site is available to the public free of charge. Lewisville's Excellence in Aquatics Recognized The City of Lewisville has received the 2010 Agency of the Year Award from the Texas Public Pool Council. Lewisville competed against other agencies of similar size (50,001 - 99,999 residents). The award will be presented during the Pool Conference at the Annual Awards Ceremony. Hilary Boen, Lewisville's Aquatic Supervisor, will accept the award on the City's behalf. The City will also receive a banner to display at the pools for the benefit of the park guests. New Graffiti Hotline Debuts Jan. 1 The Lewisville Police Department is launching a new graffiti reporting hotline, 972.219.5010, beginning Jan. 1. Those calling the graffiti, or “tagging,” hotline will be directed to a voicemail box instructing the caller to press “0” if the crime is in progress, or to leave a message with details of the site that has been tagged. In-progress reports will be transferred directly into dispatch. Those leaving details of a graffiti location will be asked to leave a name and telephone number in case the LPD needs to contact them for additional information, but it is not required in order to leave a location. DCTA Installs New Bus Shelters The Denton County Transportation Authority completed installation of 13 bus shelters in Lewisville this week. Connect passengers now have a more comfortable waiting area along Routes 21, 22 and 23. All 13 bus shelters are equipped with benches for passengers to use while waiting for their bus to arrive and were placed at major retail centers in Lewisville as well as along Southwest Parkway, where there are high concentration of passengers. All bus shelters have been installed in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and are accessible by all passengers, including those with mobility devices. “We’re very excited to see this project come to fruition. It’s been a priority of the (DCTA) and a strong desire of our passengers,” Said Jarod Varner, Vice President of Bus Operations. DCTA will continue adding amenities to improve passenger travel in Lewisville. The Authority has plans to increase at-stop passenger information by installing route and schedule information at bus stops and shelters. Once Lewisville is completed, DCTA plans to install shelters and at-stop passenger information along Denton Connect routes. “We want to improve the way we distribute information to our passengers as well as potential passengers. Having information available at bus stops and shelters is the best way for us to accomplish this task,” said Kristina Brevard, marketing manager. For more information regarding DCTA schedules and routes, please visit www.dcta.net. January Events at the Lewisville Public Library The Lewisville Public Library, 1197 W.
