Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Homebuyer Program Meetings
Economic Development and Planning staff invited real estate and lending partners to a meeting to provide input on revisions to the First-time Homebuyer Assistance Program. The CDBG Advisory Committee has given staff direction to make changes to the program that assisted 16 low-to-moderate income families to purchase their first home last year. In each of the last two years, program funding has run out before the end of the year. Revisions to the program are designed to assist as many home buyers as possible by making some reductions to the level of benefits. Revisions are also being considered to update and clarify various policies and procedures. On Wednesday, Jan. 13, several program partners attended a meeting at City Hall to provide in-depth input about the program. Attending were Michael Scott, Sales Manager, Bank of America; Dr. Ara Minassian, Texas Mortgage Team & Real Living Lone Star Realtors; Bea Mitchell, Mortgage Loan Consultant, First United Mortgage Bank; Eyad Salloum, Broker Associate, Remax; Mark Chew, Broker/Agent, Harold Carter Realtors; and Tamela Bowie, Chair of the Community Development Block Grant Advisory Committee.

On January 19, the CDBG Advisory Committee met and reviewed the draft revisions to the First-time Homebuyer Assistance Program. Staff related the comments and key discussions from the previous meeting. The committee gave staff further direction for revisions that will be ready for their final recommendation for City Council in February. The committee also established a time-line for proposals for CDBG grant funding and will hear presentations from applicants on Saturday, March 27, 2010.
