Support Services Bureau
The Support Services Bureau consists of a total of 50 full-time employees assigned to the following divisions or units: Records, Property and Evidence, Internal Affairs, Front Desk, Jail, Communications, Training (including the Lewisville Police Academy), and Data Processing. This operation provides support for all other Department units and directly serves the citizens of the community in a variety of ways. This bureau is under the command of Assistant Chief Joni Eddy.
Chief Eddy graduated from Texas Woman's University in 1980 with a Bachelors Degree in Journalism/Broadcasting. She received her Master's Degree from the University of North Texas in 1983 in Journalism/Public Relations. Chief Eddy began her law enforcement career as a Detention Sergeant for the Denton County Sheriff's Department. After spending three years at the Sheriff's Department, Chief Eddy began working for the Lewisville Police Department in 1989. She has served our Department as a Patrol Officer, Detective, Patrol Sergeant, Criminal Investigation Division Sergeant, Lieutenant and most recently, Support Services Captain.
Jail Division
The division has fifteen non-sworn Community Service Officers (CSOs) who staff the front desk and jail 24 hours a day, seven days a week. These employees assist the public at the desk by taking police reports, giving information, and other types of customer service. Ten CSOs staff the jail around the clock to provide supervision and custody of prisoners in the municipal holding facility.
Records Division
The Records Division manages all police reports including paperless reports entered directly into the computerized Records Management System. There are five clerks and the Support Services Supervisor. Copies of police reports are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Records can become available after-hours by contacting the Records Division during normal work hours. Crime Analysis
The Crime Analysis section is staffed by a single crime analyst, Ms. Elizabeth Mayes, and she provides statistical support to all divisions and sections of the police department. Ms. Mayes is extremely proficient in the use of mapping technology along with data analysis using real-time crime data from the department's records management system, computer-aided dispatch system, and jail system. Internal Affairs
The Internal Affairs Division is staffed with one police officer who investigates all formal complaints against members of the police department. This officer's duties also include all background checks for potential applicants. Formal complaints against police officers or other members of the department must be made in writing. Communications Division
The Communications Division consists of 6 Dispatch Supervisors and 17 Dispatchers headed up by Captain Jay Powell, Support Services Captain. The Communications Division dispatches fire, police and emergency medical services for the City of Lewisville. All dispatchers hold Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certification and operates an enhanced 9-1-1 center utilizing the latest in computerized technology for dispatching to Mobile Computer Terminals in the vehicles.
Training
The Lewisville Police Department has its own police academy approved by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education (TCLEOSE). This enables the department to provide in-service to all its police officers. TCLEOSE mandates that each peace officer receive a minimum of 80 hours in a training cycle and each cycle consists of two training units. Officers must receive at least 40 hours of training during each training unit. Certain legislatively mandated courses must be completed during the training cycle.
