CITY MANAGER’S WEEKLY UPDATE
For the week of:
January 8, 2012

MCL Grand to Celebrate First Anniversary with “Mama’s Party” on Jan. 14
Talented performers from across North Texas will converge on the Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater on Saturday, Jan. 14, to help celebrate the facility’s first anniversary.

The event also will include the opening reception for “Our Town,” a new gallery exhibit by Visual Art League (VAL). Admission is $10, with all proceeds benefitting the 88 Keys campaign toward a Steinway concert grand piano at MCL Grand.

“Our Town” will open at 6:30 p.m. with a reception and cash bar. The exhibit theme is historic Lewisville, and VAL artists will present interpretations in various media of historic and contemporary scenes reflecting Lewisville’s rich heritage. The show will remain in the gallery through Feb. 25. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 1-5 p.m. To schedule group visits during other hours, call 972.219.8446.

“Mama’s Party” will start at 8 p.m. in the Performance Hall. This popular activity brings together some of the finest musical theater talent in North Texas for a casual showcase of scenes and songs. It has been a weekly fixture at Contemporary Theater of Dallas, making a special visit to mark the MCL Grand anniversary.

Amy Stevenson (“Mama”) is an experienced local entertainer with deep ties to regional theater, and she invites her friends to come sing, play and perform. The result is a mixture of new and veteran North Texas performers who combine to put on a show that audience members will never forget.

Steinway Hall has donated the use of a nine-foot Steinway grand piano for the evening. Scheduled performers so far include Stephanie Riggs, Jay Gardner, and Michael Smith, but the lineup is always changing and many more familiar faces from local theaters are expected.
