The first and second place finishers qualified to participate in the State Challenge. Officer Hill won the regional challenge and joined other inspectors in College Station last week to compete against the top commercial vehicle inspectors in the state who had qualified at their area regional competitions. Inspectors were tested in cargo tank, hazardous material shipments and passenger vehicle (bus) inspections. Inspectors also took a written test and had a personal interview by a panel consisting of a trucking industry representative, a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Official, and a Department of Public Safety Captain. Scores were based on the identification of violations found on the various inspections (a timed event), written test score, and the interview. This was Officer Hill’s first time to compete in the State Championship. He finished sixth overall out of the 20 competing inspectors and won first place in hazardous materials for the local agency division group.
