Early Voting Begins April 26 at Municipal Annex
Early voting for the May 8 general election will take place at the Lewisville Municipal Annex from April 26-30, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and May 3-4 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Election Day is Saturday, May 8, with two City Council places on the ballot. Additional information is available on the city’s website, www.cityoflewisville.com.

Election Day voting will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 8, at four locations:
• Lewisville City Hall, 151 W. Church St., for Denton County Election Precincts 113, 114, 138, 224 and 309
• Lewisville Municipal Annex, 1197 W. Main St., for Denton County Election Precincts 300, 308, 310, 311 and 324
• Memorial Park Recreation Center, 1950B S. Valley Parkway, for Denton County Election Precincts 301, 305, 312, 315, 318, 319 and 321; Dallas County Election Precincts 4705, 4707, 4708 and 4709
• Camey Elementary, 4949 Arbor Glen, The Colony, for Denton County Election Precinct 221

Citizens are encouraged to bring their voter registration cards with them to the polling location. To determine if you are registered to vote in Denton County, visit the Denton County Elections website: http://elections.dentoncounty.com. For voter registration information, contact the Denton County Elections Division at 940.349.3200.

Louisiana College First to Qualify for ASC Softball Championship
Louisiana College (30-2), ranked number one in the country in NCAA Division III women’s softball, heads the field for the American Southwest Conference Softball Championship, to be held at Lewisville’s Railroad Park April 29-May 1.

Other qualifiers to the six-team field are University of Texas at Tyler (ranked second in the country), Hardin Simmons, Mary Hardin Baylor and Concordia College. The final playoff spot will be determined this weekend between East Texas Baptist University and Mississippi College. The complete tournament schedule will be released on Tuesday.

American Southwest Conference, a member of NCAA Division III, has signed a three-year agreement to hold its annual softball championship tournament at the new Railroad Park athletic complex in Lewisville. The ASC tournament will be the first major softball event held at Lewisville’s new four-field complex, which opened in November 2009.

Senior Center’s 2010 Health Fair Set for April 30
The 2010 Senior Health Fair, hosted by the City of Lewisville Senior Activity Center, will be held Friday, April 30, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the center, located on the corner of Memorial and Valley Parkway. The fair will feature around 70 business vendors in all fields relating to senior health. Free medical screenings and tests are available. A fun walk starts at 8 a.m., and the first 100 seniors will receive a free T-shirt.

Keynote speaker at the event will be Ebby Halliday, 99-year-old founder and chairperson of Ebby Halliday Realtors, the largest independently owned residential real estate company in Texas. A free lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m., sponsored by Providence Village of Denton. Prize giveaways, courtesy of Bravo Health, include gift cards ranging from $50 to $200.


Fire Department News
Training
Brad's Towing held a class at Station 7 on April 5th, 6th, and 7th to demonstrate the operation of their tow trucks. Fire department personnel were shown how to operate the trucks so that, in the event something happened to the tow truck driver, fire department personnel would be able to assist with operation of the truck. Working alongside the various wrecker services in the city, on calls ranging from major accidents to pulling vehicles out of the lake, the training was intended to give personnel a basic knowledge on how to operate the apparatus in an emergency situation.

On April 17th, 18th, and 19th, a representative was here from Pierce to train all three shifts on the new Engine 161.

Red Cross Meeting
On Monday, April 5th, LFD hosted the Denton County Red Cross Disaster Team Meeting. Millie Bell, the new Regional Emergency Services Specialist, was introduced and Division Chief Steve Carter gave an overview of the fire department to the team. There were 45 people in attendance.

Lewisville Lake Meeting
On Friday, April 9th, a lake resource meeting was held at the U. S. Army Corp of Engineers office. This meeting was planned and directed by the Lewisville Fire Department. Representatives from several agencies came together to plan for the upcoming lake season. All were able to share their resource availability and plan joint communication strategy in the event of an emergency at the lake. In attendance were: Lewisville Fire Department, Lewisville Police Department, Lewisville Communications Supervisor, Denton County Emergency Services, Sheriff’s Office, Little Elm Police Department, Game Wardens, Coast Guard Auxiliary, and Corp of Engineers officers.

Arson Division
Division Chief Terry McGrath and Retha assisted the US Secret Service on April 15th and 16th providing security sweeps for the King of Jordon.

EMS Division
On April 8th and 9th, Division Chief Ricky Reeves attended the annual Texas Ambulance Association board meeting and billing conference in South Padre. While there Chief Reeves was elected to the Board of Directors of the Texas Ambulance Association. At the conference he received updates on Medicare and Medicaid programs and future changes to Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The week of April 12th Chief Reeves attended the annual Zoll Data User Conference in Denver, Colorado. He received information about updates to our current billing software and information about our future ePCR field data software.

Medication Disposal Day
On May 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Lewisville Police Department and Lewisville Environmental Programs office will participate in Lewisville Independent School District’s second Medication Disposal Day. Collections will be held on five campuses in five cities in LISD, and will be supervised by law enforcement personnel from each of those communities. The Lewisville location will be at Lewisville High School, 1098 West Main. Residents can bring in over-the-counter and prescription medications they are no longer using and know they will be disposed of properly. LISD sponsors this program as part of its drug awareness program.

Old Town Lewisville Farmers Market Accepting Applications
Old Town Lewisville Farmers Market applications for both farmers and arts and crafts vendors are now available on www.cityoflewisville.com. The Old Town Lewisville Farmers Market, a seasonal open-air forum for Denton County and North Texas-grown products, will be open Saturdays from May 15 through Oct. 30 starting at 8 a.m. at Wayne Ferguson Plaza in Old Town Lewisville.
