KLB recognized for Cigarette Litter Prevention Program
Keep Lewisville Beautiful was honored during the 58th annual Keep America Beautiful National Conference for distinguishing itself as an exemplary volunteer organization. Taking second place in its category, the organization was honored for its Cigarette Litter Prevention Program.

The Keep America Beautiful National Conference, which took place in New Orleans, brought together award-winning affiliates and organizations from across the country to share best practices and celebrate their successes of the past 12 months. The KAB National Cigarette Litter Prevention Program Awards are open to all affiliate participants for their cigarette butt litter reduction efforts during 2011. The honored organizations are those that addressed and implemented the program’s four key strategies: encourage support of litter laws that include cigarette litter; raise awareness about the issue using public service messages; place ash receptacles at transition points such as entrances to public buildings; and distribute pocket ashtrays to adult smokers.

Keep Lewisville Beautiful took second place and a $750 grant in the expanded implementation category for its successful 2011 Cigarette Litter Prevention Program.

“KLB is excited about our 2011 CLPP award and program participation,” said Amy Wells, Executive Director of Keep Lewisville Beautiful. “This year, KLB partnered with the City of Lewisville’s Parks and Leisure Services to install 10 free-standing ash receptacles in Old Town and saw a 77 percent reduction in cigarette litter on Main Street. We hope to work again with PALS in the future to expand this successful program to other areas of our city to help cut down cigarette litter.”
