Living in the Metroplex makes it difficult to get hometown news on a daily basis, so the City of Lewisville is doing its best to keep you informed through several avenues.

This page will allow you to see what we send to the media, whether it makes it into print or not. The city publicizes projects, programs, achievements, safety tips, ordinances, Council actions, public notices, special events, and much, much more through News Releases.

The city also operates two Municipal Access cable channels, LVTV Prime and LVTV Leisure, available on the basic tier of the Time Warner and Verizon VFIOS cable systems. LVTV Prime (TW-16, VF-15) broadcasts programs and announcements with basic information about city events and operations, while LVTV Leisure (TW-96, VF-16) focuses on the parks and recreation field.

Registration is now open for the 13th annual World Tamale Eating Championship scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 30, during the Western Days festival in Old Town Lewisville.

The event, organized by the Lewisville Convention and Visitors Bureau and officially sanctioned by Major League Eating (MLE), will pay a total purse of $3,500 to the top six finishers. The contest will start at 1 p.m. on the front steps of Lewisville City Hall, 151 W. Church Street. Registration is being conducted online at ifoce.com. Tamales are being provided by event sponsor Market Street.

The current world record is held by Joey “Jaws” Chestnut of San Jose, Calif. Chestnut, the top-ranked eater in Major League Eating, captured the 2012 title in Lewisville by downing 102 tamales in 12 minutes.

MLE is the governing body of all stomach-centric sports, conducting more than 70 events annually including the Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, NY. The competitive eating community, which numbers more than 3,000 veteran and rookie athletes, travels the nation in search of top titles and the glory that they provide.

This year’s Western Days event will feature Turnpike Troubadours and Randy Rogers Band as headlining musical acts, an expanded Western Village featuring the Tribal Traditions Dance Troupe, the Kid Kountry Playground presented by Castle Hills, a mechanical bull, a working blacksmith, Huffines Auto Dealerships Lewisville Cattle Drive Parade, Castle Hills Culinary Corner, an art gallery exhibit at Medical City Lewisville Grand Theater, and many more exciting, family-friendly activities.

Gates will open at 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday. Free tickets will be available for pick-up or download (LewisvilleWesternDays.com) on a future date. Download or print as many as needed and present them at the gate for free admission between the hours of 5-7 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday. However, beginning at 7 p.m. both nights, free tickets will no longer be redeemable, and a $10 charge will be assessed for admission for everyone except children under 10.

Festival-goers are encouraged to use the free shuttle service to access the festival grounds. Shuttle hubs will be set up at DCTA Old Town Station, 617 E. Main Street; DCTA Hebron Station, 952 Lakeside Circle; and Vista Ridge Village Shopping Center, 2325 I-35E. Shuttle times are 4 p.m.-12:30 a.m. on Friday, and 9 a.m.-12:30 a.m. Saturday. Shuttles will run every 10-15 minutes. While this is a pet-friendly event, pets and weapons will not be allowed on shuttle buses per bus company policy.
